Director's Award

The Director's Award is given to an outstanding 8th grade student in each group (band and orchestra) who, at all times, has demonstrated the following characteristics:

  • a member of the concert band, orchestra or jazz band
  • qualities of the Merit and Outstanding Musicianship Award winners to the utmost
  • shows pride in oneself and in our band
  • excellent musician
  • consistent throughout both years at MRMS
  • at least an "A" average in both years at MRMS

In short, the recipient of the Director's Award is someone who Mr. Estell would be proud to have representing our Instrumental Music Program.

Outstanding Musicianship Award

Quite a few students can earn this award.

Students receiving this award can be 7th or 8th graders. In order to be considered for this award, they must first demonstrate the following characteristics:

  • a member of the concert band, orchestra or jazz band
  • is a leader without being bossy
  • responsible
  • reliable
  • positive attitude
  • respects others
  • well-prepared
  • enthusiastic and encouraging to others
  • excellent attendance at our rehearsals
  • attends all performances (or completes make-up assignment if excused absence)
  • content knowledge grade average an "A" for the year
  • work habits grade average an "A" for the year
  • demonstrates outstanding ability on his or her instrument

Merit Award

Quite a few students can earn this award.
