Choirs at North
North offers 3 concert choirs during the school day, a chamber choir after school plus 2 co-curricular show choirs. Choirs at North are a year-long course and students are expected to be in choir all year. If a need to drop for a term arises students are to consult their directors to find a solution that will allow the students to continue their vocal music education as well. If a student elects to not take choir 4th term then they will not be eligible for end of the year awards and will not be able to sing at graduation. If they plan to be in show choir the following school year, then students must be in choir during 4th term of the previous year.
Concert Chorale
Concert Chorale is North High School’s premier vocal ensemble. Open by audition only, this choir sings the Iowa All-State selections as well as other collegiate-level choral literature. This group is composed of mostly upperclassmen and those students also participating in Northside Establishment show choir.
Varsity Singers
Varsity Singers is an auditioned ensemble composed of mostly underclassmen and those students also participating in Center Stage show choir.
Singers
Singers is a select group of treble voices singing various styles of treble literature and those students participating in Northside Establishment and Center Stage show choir.
Chamber
Chamber Choir is an ensemble that meets after school 4 days a week and performs at various community events and competitions throughout the year. The great majority of these events happen during the all-state season, holiday season and for small group contest in the spring. This group of students is in charge of the NHS Follies in the Spring. The group is open to students who are auditioning for the Iowa All-State Chorus or those freshmen who have auditioned for the OPUS Honor Choir.
Northside Establishment
Northside Establishment is our varsity-level show choir. Composed mostly of upperclassmen, this ensemble is open by audition only and students must be in a curricular choir to participate. (ie., Concert Chorale, Varsity Singers and by directors approval only, Chamber Singers).
Center Stage
Center Stage is North High School’s prep show choir. This auditioned ensemble is made up of mostly first-year show choir members and underclassmen. Students must be in a curricular choir to participate. (ie., Concert Chorale, Varsity Singers and by directors approval only, Chamber Singers).
