Band Lesson Information (**Lesson Schedules can be found below.)
On this site, you can access the 4th, 5th and 6th Grade Band Instrumental Lesson Schedules. Students are grouped in like instrument lesson groups which last for 30 minutes each. Lessons take place once a week. These lessons remove students from their normally scheduled class on a rotating basis. It is the responsibility of the student to notify their regular classroom teacher before they leave for their lesson. Students are responsible for all work missed due to a lesson. The following is a breakdown concerning which lesson groups meet on which days:
Mondays: 5th Grade Flute, Oboe, Clarinet and Saxophone Lessons
Tuesdays: 4th Grade Flute, Oboe, Clarinet, and Saxophone Lessons
Wednesdays: 5th Grade Trumpet, French Horn, Trombone, Baritone, Tuba and Percussion Lessons; 6th Grade Trumpet, French Horn, Trombone, Baritone and Percussion Lessons
Thursdays: 4th Grade Trumpet, French Horn, Trombone, Baritone, and Percussion Lessons
Fridays: 6th Grade Flute, Oboe, Clarinet, Saxophone Lessons
This schedule will hopefully remain the same for the entire year. Lessons make up the majority of your grade for concert band and missing a lesson will result in the lowering of the course grade accordingly. It is important that each student keep track of their lessons. The lesson schedule will be posted in the Band Room, on the Band Bulletin Board and also on this Band Website. Students should mark their lesson dates and times in their planner!
Practice
Consistent practice is the best way to progress on an instrument. Every student is expected to practice 20 minutes per day, 5 days per week. Practice time can be logged on a practice sheet that will be provided by Mrs. Irwin at the student’s first lesson. Parents can check for weekly progress on these practice sheets. Students will receive small rewards for fulfilling their practice time each week (100 minutes total). Each student will receive a “Dansville Star Performer” sheet in their band folder. They will receive one sticker for being prepared for their lesson (with music, instrument, pencil and practice time). Extra stickers will be awarded as appropriate.
