Grades k, 1, and 2 begin each class with a warm up that focuses on on gross motor skills (walking, galloping, skipping, sliding). We are also learning different exercises that will strengthen every part of our body. Some of these exercises are planks, burpees, mountain climbers and crunches just to name a few. We are also working on underhand throwing and catching.
Grades 3, 4, and 5 students are learning the components of health related fitness (aerobic endurance, muscular strength and endurance and flexibility). We are learning a variety of exercises that target these health related fitness components.
Grades 4 and 5 are taking the curl up test for abdominal muscular strength and endurance. The next fitness test they will take will be the P.A.C.E.R. to determine their cardiovascular/aerobic fitness level. The next unit of study will be floorball, which is a variation of floor hockey.
