POLICIES & PROCEDURES

COLLEGE PREP | SILVERBERG | FALL, 2015

1. EXPECTATIONS

Classroom expectations can be summarized in four brief phrases:

-Be prompt.

-Be prepared.

-Be polite.

-Be participant.

Additionally, please obey all D219 rules as outlined in the Student Handbook.

2. SPACE

This year, we have the privilege of having our class in 1335 - a room that has been totally revamped and outfitted for 21st century learning. In this room we have an iMac design and video production suite, Apple TV connectivity, modular seating and variety of other cool features. This is your classroom and you will be expected to treat it as such. There will be no eating or drinking in this classroom. All trash must find its way into one of the several trash or recycling receptacles. Any damage or defiling of anything or any part of this classroom will be handled swiftly and severely.

3. MATERIALS

Students should be prepared for class each day. Being prepared entails having the following items: textbook(s), consumable novels, writing utensils, notebook (dedicated to this class), a folder with pockets, and any necessary mobile computing devices.

4. PARTICIPATION

Attendance and participation are critical to the success of our class. Be here. Be prepared and ready to go and in your assigned seat when class begins. It is an expectation that students ask questions, share insights, contribute to discussions, make presentations, read their writing and revise the writing of their peers. Your suggestions also help to shape our learning environment and the nature of the work we do in here.

5. DIGITAL LITERACY

As we move through high school, college and the work world, digital literacy will be in high demand. Accordingly, we will be using mobile computing devices and Web 2.0 technologies to enhance and extend our learning beyond the classroom. Much of the work you produce will be submitted, commented on and graded electronically. Additionally, all syllabi and weekly plans will be accessible via our course website.

6. LEARNING GAME PLAN

7. ASSESSMENT

All assigned work (homework, in-class activities, tests, quizzes, essays, projects) will factor into your semester grade. We use the total points grading method. Assessment and grading will be broken down accordingly:
