Policies & Procedures

Pathways is a program designed to meet the needs of each student so that they may become as independent as possible. The main areas concentrated on are functional academics, social/recreational and emotional skills, vocational skills, daily living and independent skills. Students are expected to attend class on a regular basis and exhibit appropriate behaviors. Grades are based on attendance, student's effort/participation and progress based on student's own ability. IEP updates will provide parents with information regarding how their student is progressing towards their goals.

Grading Policies

Students in the Pathways Program are graded on their work ethic, coming to class prepared, demonstrating effort, cooperating with teachers and peers, and completing required assignments or tasks. IEP updates and teacher/parent communication should keep parents informed of their student’s progress and serve as the best indicator of how their child is doing.

Parent/Teacher Communication

Parents are encouraged to communicate with me via e-mail or phone call. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions, concerns, and/or to discuss your child’s progress. I appreciate a call or brief note to let me know if something has occurred that may affect your child’s performance that day (i.e. lack of sleep, not eating or feeling well). This is information can give us greater insight in the event that the student is having a difficult time. I am available during the following times: 8:00-9:30 am and 2:40-3:15 pm.

Attendance

Students should call their teacher (847-626-2910) if they are going to be absent from school or are running late. Parents should supervise the call and give assistance if necessary. This is good practice for when students will be working some day. PARENTS STILL NEED TO CALL THE ATTENDANCE HOTLINE AT 847-626-2570 AND REPORT THE ABSENCE OR LATE ARRIVAL. YOU WILL NEED TO GIVE THE STUDENT’S ID NUMBER AT THIS TIME.

Behavioral Expectations of Students

Respect personal belongings of others

Communication

Please check your student’s notebook or folder after school each day for important notes, school information, or homework. Parents can send notes to school this way as well. Students are encouraged to give their parents any mail and be responsible for remembering to bring their notebooks or folders home and returning it to school.

Transportation

Please let the teacher know if there will be a change in the student’s transportation. If you are not able to speak with the teacher, call Cathy Orlandi at 847-626-2881. It is very important that we are aware of any changes, as the student’s safety to and from school are of the utmost importance.
