What's Happening in Social Studies?

There are a variety of ways to be involved with the Social Studies Department at Palatine High School. Beyond our rich course selection, our teachers coach sports, sponsor clubs, and organize events for the student body. Check out what works with your interests and get involved!

Check out the Department Blog for some highlights!

Pirates and Politics

Pirates and Politics

Students looking to get politically involved or who are generally interested in local, state, or national politics will find it worthwhile to join!

The club is motivated and styled after the Mikva Challenge, which states

[The] "Mikva Challenge was founded on the premise that youth voice and participation matter, and that our civic and political life will be stronger when youth participate and help shape their own destinies."

Interested students should contact sponsors Ms. Emily Hamman or Ms. Leslie Schock

Service Club

The Service Club participates, volunteers and organizes several events throughout the year to benefit our community and school.

The Service club has raised over $3,000 for Breast Cancer Awareness, participated in Feed My Starving Children, provided pencils and candy for AP Test Takers, Arranged Hall Monitor and Bus Driver Appreciation Days, made blankets for children in Wings, donated over 150 items to an animal shelter, and more.

The Service Club meets every Thursday at 7:30 AM

The Service Club is co-sponsored by Social Studies teachers Andrea Guthrie and Brittany Berleman.
