ACTIVITIES IN OUR LIBRARY

Q: What is one way I can learn + stay up-to-date this summer?

A: Read the news!

This April, the Canyon Library proudly highlights Castro Valley's many local news and journalism outlets, from the Castro Valley Forum, to the CVHS Olympian, to Castro Valley Today, to even our local ABC7 Bay Area News.

Regardless of your plans for Summer Vacation 2024, be sure to add a few news sites to your bookmarks or look for the paper on Wedenesday mornings so that you can stay up-to-date.

Need more outlets? Want to go deeper? Feel free to ask Mr. Dasalla for how to keep your brain well fed this summer via news!

Our monthly exercise in global citizenship!

This month, the world's largest democracy will go to the polls! Across India, over 900 million eligible voters will cast their vote in the parliamentary and local elections, due to occur from April 19 to June 1.

India's showcase of democratic outreach astonishes the world each election cycle, as more people vote in this single election than in any other in the world. And, it is thanks to the tireless election workers across the subcontinent of India, that the election is able to run, largely without hitch. These workers travel to the heights of the Himalayas, the centers of mega-cities, and to wherever (no matter how remote) so that as many Indian citizens can vote as possible.

This March, with the popularity of Dune II's premiere and the continued popularity of sci-fi books in the Canyon Library, let's delve into imagining our own sci-fi world.

Choose the hero and villains of your story, find descriptive words that capture the awe, marvels, and horrors which may fill your imaginary world.

End up loving your idea and story? Expand upon it and grab some binder paper, even. Keep on writing!

Our monthly exercise in global citizenship!

As Super Tuesday comes and goes in our local political calendars, let us take a moment to reflect on the millions of others around the world who cast a ballot this month.

And, remember, voting is different in every country. So if you want to learn more about the fairness, results, culture, or implications of each of these elections, feel free to do your own research and report back your learning! Unsure where to start? Speak with Mr. Dasalla and we can brain storm some potential search queries, together.

And, do not forget to invoke your right to vote in our monthly Canyon Art Contests!
