Procedures and Expectations



Greetings 6th graders! Welcome to Miller Middle School! I will be teaching you Earth Science and Math 6 Flex and am looking forward to an exciting year! This syllabus has everything you need to know regarding procedures, and expectations in our classroom.

My website will be used at the beginning of the year, to get set up and for reference materials, however, Google Classroom will be the main form of communication for the majority of the year. All Google Classroom links will be posted on the website.



Daily Behavior Expectations

· Do your part to contribute to a positive classroom. community where everyone feels included and safe.

· Have compassion towards others so everyone feels safe and valued.

· Come to class on time, ready to learn, & with your supplies.

· Follow directions the first time they are given.

· Listen and pay attention when others are speaking.

· Take responsibility for your learning and understand that mistakes are part of the learning process.


Absence Policy

If you are absent, you are still responsible for turning in all assignments. For assignments missed during an absence, you have as many days as you were absent to make up the work. Please see me when you return from your absence for hard copies of your assignments.


Late Work

Late work is accepted up to 5 days late for 50% credit. You will need to fill out a Late Work Reflection Slip and have it signed by a parent or guardian. You must hand me your late work with the slip to receive the credit.

Discipline Procedures

The consequence for breaking a rule depends on the circumstance and teacher judgment. Consequences may include one or more of the following: trash duty, CBR, DR, call home to parents, conference, detention, and/or other consequence as deemed appropriate.


Cheating

Please refer to the “Miller Honor Code” in the student planner on cheating and consequences. Making the choice to cheat on a test, homework, or any assignment will result in an F and immediate contact home.

Miller Grading Scale

A 93-100% C 73-76%

A- 90-92% C- 70-72%

B+ 87-89% D+ 67%-69%

B 83-86% D 63%-66%

B- 80-82% D- 60-62%

C+ 77-79% F below 60%

Suggested Supply List

· Spiral Notebook for Science Binder paper and graph paper

· Highlighters (2 different colors)

· Ruler - with both cm. and inches

· Colored pencils or pens

· Pencils or mechanical pencils

· 2 colored pens (red or blue ink only) for correcting class work and homework

Choose one type of organization system.

DECIDE WHAT WORKS BEST FOR YOU

IT COULD BE:

1. A 3-ring Binder with Dividers for all subjects labeled with your classes

2. An Accordion Binder with at least 5 sections labeled with your classes

3. Multiple Folders with Pockets labeled with classes

4. One folder for all in and out work

If you are unable to obtain the recommended supplies your grade will not reflect that. However, you must discuss with me before the due date either via email or in person, so I can make sure you have the needed materials.

Please have all supplies in class by Wednesday, August 18th.
