Course Description:
Our science course is designed to be aligned with the 6th grade California standards. In 6th grade, we have to unique opportunity to explore the world of Earth Science! Areas of exploration include:
Scientific Method and Engineering
Earth’s History
Heat, Density, and Buoyancy
Plate Tectonics and Earth’s Structure
Volcanoes and Earthquakes
Rocks and Minerals
Forces that Shape Earth’s Surface
7. Ecology
You will be assessed in science on the following areas:
▪ Science Unit Packets
▪ Environmental Current events
▪ Labs and Experiments: hands on classroom activities
▪ Individual and Group Exploration Projects
▪ Assessments (quizzes and tests)
▪ Major Projects: Human Impact Project and Ecocolumns Lab

CPO Focus on Earth Science
Textbook replacement: $60
In addition to covering chapters 1-15 in the textbook, additional topics related to Earth Science may be covered based on current events.

Math 6 Flex Course Description
Text: CPM Course 1 and 2
Textbook Replacement: $80
The Math 6 Flex Course aligns with the Common Core State Standards for grades 6 and 7. Problem Solving, and critical thinking skills will be practiced and reinforced.
Units of Study Include:
1. Ratio and Proportions
2. The Number System
3. Expressions and Equations
4. Geometry
5. Statistics and Probability

Math Grading System
Assessments (70% of total grade)
Includes chapter quizzes and tests, homework quizzes, and notecard checks.
Math NB (10% of total grade)
Daily class discussions and work which includes notes, classwork, examples and practice as well notebook quizzes.
Practice (10% of total grade)
The purpose of practice work is to reinforce learning done in class. The practice work is for credit and is based on effort, completion, correct formation, showing work, and correction of problems missed.
Projects/Problem Solving Assignments (10% of total grade)
Open ended problems, performance tasks, and long-term projects. These assignments will take place throughout the year and will reinforce the math standards being covered.
