Music Mark
We are pleased to announce that we are now a 'Music Mark School'
Music Mark is the UK Association for Music Education, championing and supporting access to music for all children and young people.
We have already started embracing the music this school year, with our Choir getting together weekly to sing their hearts out, and Djembe drumming sessions in Year 3. We have more exciting music experiences taking place next term, so keep an eye out for details!
500 Words Competition
The BBC's 500 words story writing competition is now open for entries and we are encouraging all children to take part!
Children are being encouraged to write 'a story they would love to read' in 500 words or less - with the chance to win some amazing prizes - including a trip to Buckingham Palace for the finalists!!
The competition has two categories: 5-7 and 8-11 year olds, and all children are encouraged to enter. Spelling, punctuation and grammar are not marked - it's all about creativity!
As an extra incentive, we will also be judging the stories in school, meaning even if children don't make it into the BBC competition finals, there will still be lots of great prizes up for grabs within school!!
We hope you'll join us in encouraging your child to take part - there are some fantastic resources online to help parents to support children with their writing. Visit https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/articles/z89v9ty for lots of helpful tips!
The deadline for submissions is Tuesday 5th November so let's get writing over the half term break!!
Half Term Safety
With Halloween taking place during the half-term break, we know children will be out and about in the community enjoying the season's festivities.
Whilst Halloween can be great fun, it's also important to remember the risks that come with celebrating, and with this in mind we'd like to share these safety tips from the Child Accident Prevention Trust:
https://capt.org.uk/halloween/
Bonfire Night will also take place just after we return from the break, and CAPT also have some great informaton on how to stay safe when dealing with fireworks:

We wish you all a safe and happy half term break.

Colder Weather
When we return to school in Term 2, we will be heading in to winter and would like to remind parents that children should be bringing a coat to school with them every day during these colder, wetter months. As the weather starts to get very cold, it's also helpful to send them with hats and gloves. Please ensure that any clothing sent in with children is properly labeled so it can be returned to it's owner if misplaced.
Poppy Appeal 2024
When we return from the half term break, we will be once again selling poppies and poppy related items for this year's Rememberance Day on behalf of the Royal British Legion.
If your child would like to purchase anything, please send them in with change. We will be unable to offer change for items so please do not send children in with notes.
As well as the poppies and items above, we will also have a number of special pin badges available at a cost of £3. These will only be sold to parents and available from the school office.

YouTube Kids
During parents evening, we had a number of parents express concerns over the content their children are viewing online.
Keeping children safe online is so important, but with so much information and content available, making sure children are always viewing appropriate content can be a real minefield!
YouTube Kids was built to be a fun, family-friendly place for children. The app has popular children's videos and diverse new content, delivered in a way that's easy for childen to use. Parent's can supervise children's experiences to ensure they are not viewing disturbing or inappropriate videos and can limit screen time to make sure they are making the most of their time spent online.
School Meals Autumn/Winter
When we return to school after the half-term break, we will have a new school meals menu available.
As we will be heading into the colder months, we will no longer be offering wraps and salad as an option, to ensure all children are getting a hot meal during the school day.
We are still waiting for copies of the menu to arrive so we can send them home with the children, but in the mean time, you can view the new meny here
After School Clubs - Term 2
After school clubs for Term 2 are now available to book in the School Gateway app. Please be aware of the following changes:

Bristol Girls Can - Activity Campaign
This term, we have been joined at coffee morning by Alice from the Bristol Girls Can campaign.
The campaign aims to get women and girls involved in more physical excercise and is supported by Sports England as part of the national 'This Girl Can' scheme.
You may have seen Alice speaking to parents about the barriers that may be in place in the community that stop them getting involved in sports or excercise - for example cost or availibility. She is still interested in taking feedback about this from parents.
If you happened to miss Alice whilst she's on site, but would still like to speak with her about ideas for accessing exercise within the community, you can call her on 07918 845 440 or email her at alice@bristolgirlscan.co.uk

Lowering Attendance - providing medical evidence
Many parents may have received letters recently regarding their child's lowering attendance. When a child's attendance falls to 92% or below we ask that any future absence be authorised with medical evidence.
Medical evidence can be a formal doctors note, proof of a phone call to the GP surgery (screen shots must show the length of the call), or even a picture of the medication prescribed.
Our main goal is to work with parents to support their child's attendance so please do not hesitate to contact us if you have received a letter from us and you have any questions or concerns.
AWARDS & celebrations
Due to the Half Term break, there are no Head Teacher Awards this week.
Here is a reminder of last week's wonderful winners...
