The Sophomores combined with a select group of varsity players to take on Hinsdale South in a JV game on Monday. After the Hornets scored on their opening drive, the Mustang defense tightened up and did not allow another point for the rest of the game. Offensively, the Mustangs were led by a strong performance from the offensive line and the running attack of Cole Houser, Will Mouser, and quarterback Luke Potter. The game was tied 6-6 heading into the fourth quarter before the Mustangs scored two late touchdowns to secure a 19-6 victory.
On Friday night, the Mustangs took on their rivals of Hinsdale South in front of a large crowd. The Mustangs battled all game against a physical Hinsdale South team. To open up the scoring, Jacob Arocho picked off the Hornets and ran the play back for a 60-yard touchdown! This gave the Mustangs a 7-0 lead heading into the second half.
The Mustangs were also led defensively by Cornerback, Jeremiah Peoples who played extremely physical and had multiple pass breakups! The strong play on the defensive side of the ball kept the Mustangs in the game late into the 4th quarter, where we found ourselves down 8-7.
Unfortunately, the Mustangs could not capitalize offensively and fell to the Hornets 8-7. We look to get back out on the field this Saturday against Leyden and continue to showcase our week to week improvements!
The Bombsquad headed North to Roselle to face the Lancers of Lake Park for a late Saturday morning competition. While ultimately winning the contest, the Mustangs were challenged from the get-go and struggled to get the ball moving against the Lancers.
On offense the Mustangs were led by RB Mikey Stortz, RB Dakota Grimm, WR Landyn Anderson, QB Colton Engel, and QB Logan McHugh, who provided the only two scores of the day via a Power Team tush-push.
The defense was led by OLB Jacob Marmolejos and DL Erik Kelso, who together prevented the Lancers from advancing the ball for most of the game, likely holding the team to negative yardage.
This week the B team will once again play Willowbrook, who they beat handily 44-6 week 4, and look to finish the season strong in the last two weeks.
This week’s HIT HARD focus is HUMBLE—letting our effort and execution talk while we lift each other up. We’ll model gratitude, own our mistakes, and celebrate teammates who do the little things right.
HUMBLE: Do the work. Share the credit.
