The Mustangs are excited to enter Week 3 with one of the most special traditions in high school football—Senior Night. This year, we proudly recognize 33 seniors from the Class of 2026 who have dedicated themselves to the DGS Football program.
Senior Night is more than just walking across the field. It is the culmination of years of commitment—early morning lifts, hot summer practices, long bus rides, game nights, and the countless hours of effort poured into becoming part of something bigger than themselves. It is also a celebration of the families who have driven to practices, volunteered at events, and cheered from the stands. Managers and coaches who have supported these players every step of the way also share in this recognition.
Friday night will be an opportunity for our seniors to take the field one last time in front of their home crowd with the spotlight on their journey. Each senior will be introduced and walk out with their loved ones to be honored for their dedication. It’s a chance to pause, reflect, and appreciate the memories created, the challenges overcome, and the brotherhood formed.
We look forward to celebrating this incredible group and their lasting impact on Mustang Football as we continue the season together under the lights at MUSTANG STADIUM.
HIT HARD
Your time, energy, and commitment last week made a huge difference. Because of your support, we’re able to provide our players with the best experience possible—on and off the field.
The DGS Football program is stronger because of you, and we are grateful for everything you do to help our players succeed.
Mustangs March into Crosstown
The band, cheerleaders, crowd, and players were all out at Downers Grove South for the Crosstown game against Downers Grove North. This rivalry has been going on for a long time, and as one could expect, the game was heated. Not the air, though, it was mid to low 50s with big gusts of wind. The game started off with an exciting first quarter.
The Mustangs were working hard to gain yards against DGN and soon after their hard work paid off with a touchdown made by wide receiver Aidan Kanazawa with 1:08 left to go. Josh Pele Muhwezi followed after Kanazawa’s touchdown with the extra point, making the score 7-27 with the Mustangs trailing by 20. Although the Mustangs were trailing by 20, the DGS student section spirit was still lively with the overflowing USA colors. Leading into the second and third quarter, the Mustangs scored no touchdowns. By the end of the third quarter, the scoreboard read 7-47 Trojans. In the fourth quarter with 3:36 left to go on the clock, sophomore Nate Thurston caught a dime made by quarterback James Sobkowiak in the end zone making the final score of the game 14-55 Trojans.
At the end of the night we got a few words with senior Kashius Taylor about his motivation for DGS football. “My whole family really, but mostly my mom. She pushes me to be a better person and has always been on my side.” Kash said
This had been a tough game for the Mustangs, but they are coming ready to play this Friday at home against the Willowbrook Warriors. Go MUSTANGS!!
The Sophomore Mustangs faced a tough challenge against the Trojans on Friday, falling 34-0. While the result was not what the team had hoped for, the game provided valuable lessons that will fuel growth and improvement moving forward. The players are determined to turn this experience into motivation as they prepare for a strong bounce-back performance against Addison Trail.
Red Chua stood out with a solid effort running the ball, blocking, and stepping in at linebacker. Will Mouser showed his versatility and heart by contributing at safety on defense, running back on offense, and making an impact on special teams. Matthew Varela earned recognition for his selfless commitment to the team, always willing to step up in practice to help his teammates succeed.
The Mustangs are excited to kick off West Suburban Gold play during Homecoming Week with two big games at home: Monday, September 15 at 5 p.m. vs. Addison Trail and Friday, September 19 at 5 p.m. vs. Willowbrook. The team is eager to rise to the challenge and showcase their growth in front of the home crowd.
On Saturday morning, the Mustangs went head-to-head with their crosstown rivals in the first of four rivalry games—and what a battle it was! The team shined in all three phases of the game, forcing multiple turnovers, putting points on the board with a first-half offensive touchdown, and making several electrifying plays on special teams.
The Mustangs struck in the second quarter when Jesse Flakus connected with Thomas Knagge for a touchdown, giving the team a 7-0 lead heading into halftime. On the defensive side, the linebacker core—Jacob Arocho, Zay Smith, LT Prevett, and Dave Blackwell—set the tone with physicality and relentless tackling that kept the Trojans on their heels all game long.
Though the Mustangs fell on a heartbreaking final play, the effort and growth shown in Week 2 has this coaching staff incredibly proud. The fight, energy, and progress on display prove this team is on the rise—and we’re ready to keep building momentum as we charge into Week 3!
The Bomb Squad came out to play in week 2 and improved their record to 1-1!!! On the offensive side of the ball, the Mustangs were led by running back Ryan Trame, who was responsible for an unofficial B-team record 300+ yards of total yards from scrimmage. The defense had a few hiccups throughout the morning, allowing a few big plays, but came together to continually take our ball back through relentless discipline. The final takeaway being secured by free safety Austyn Santana, sealing the win, which led to a final Mustang score from quarterback Aryan Bajaj on a scramble as time expired.
RELENTLESS means refusing to quit, no matter the score, the weather, or the challenge in front of you.
It’s giving maximum effort every snap, every drill, every lift—because average EFFORT isn’t good enough.
