Books
7th Grade - Bring the lesson book you were using in 6th Grade, plus we will ALSO use Essential Elements for Band Book 1 (yellow) occasionally in class (you can keep it in your binder/locker). Later in the year we will start using Essential Elements for Band Book 2 (red).
8th Grade - Bring the lesson book you were using in 7th Grade, PLUS make sure you have Essential Elements for Band Book 2 to use in class.
Instruments
All students are expected to have their instrument every day, and to keep it in good working condition. Instruments should go home on weekends for practice. If you need help with a school instrument, you can talk to the directors or email one of us.
Lockers
Students will be provided a locker that will be available to them at open house or the first day of school. If you don't have a locker, please email your band director or talk to one of us. Some students may have additional lockers for another instrument.
Repairs
If you need your instrument repaired or tuned up, please use a qualified repair technician such as West Music or Barnard Instrument Repair. Instruments should be tuned up every year and any other repairs should be taken care of immediately. If you have trouble with your instrument, please talk to the directors right away.
Supplies Needed for Class
If you need supplies, please consider purchasing them from a local music store. In addition to the normal supplies particular to each instrument, students will need the following supplies to start the school year:
Black 1 or 1.5 inch 3-ring binder
Binder dividers with tabs
Binder pouch for pencils, tuner, etc.
Cell Phone Policy
All students will be required to keep their cell phone "out of sight" in all classrooms at Point. This policy will help to ensure a more focused learning environment. We will introduce this to the students in the first couple of days of school and then communicate home details on the expectations and potential consequences of this new policy.
Concert Attire
Black dress shirt, black dress pants/skirts (must go below the knee while seated), black dress shoes, black socks, ties are optional and can be any color. Jeans, shorts, sandals, and tennis shoes are not considered appropriate concert apparel. Any time that the Prairie bands appear in a performance, performers should be dressed appropriately. If you need assistance with purchasing a uniform, please let one of the band directors know.
