Personalized Learning

Personalized Learning

What is it..

  • Creating an educational environment that is student centered.

  • Understanding your students learning abilities and strengths and tailoring studies to meet their needs

  • Allowing students to explore given concepts and ideas in ways they can make connections to topics and take ownership in their learning

  • Setting high standards for learning and setting goals to achieve success in the classroom

  • A non-traditional approach to learning where individual needs are met within a learning environment

  • Exploring topics in multiple ways: discussion, individual conferencing with teachers/peers, video and digital material, labs, hands on activities, project based activities, reading articles/books/reports, teaching other peers,

  • Using text books and curriculum as guides, and then using real life, meaningful information to make connections and personal experiences relevant

Why is this important...

  • Every student learns differently and at a different pace

  • Every student has a different learning style

  • Every student deserves a learning experience where they can be successful and learn to the best of their abilities

  • Every student can set goals and feel a sense of accomplishment when goals are met and learning has occurred

  • Students with needs can remain in the regular classroom learning environment to work on material that meets their abilities

What it is not...

  • Handing a student a Chromebook and letting them go

  • Having students work solely on their own or in groups with no teacher interaction

  • Skipping class discussion, mini lessons or meeting with kids daily

  • Forgetting standards and expectations... if anything they are higher.
