El documento debe contener la firma original de la autoridad o del emisor.
Antes de presentar el documento en el consulado, un Notario o Abogado debe confirmar la firma del mandante (en Canadá los Abogados también son Notarios)
Posteriormente, se debe certificar la firma del Abogado o Notario en el servicio de autenticación oficial de documentos de la Provincia correspondiente:

Sólo entonces se presente el documento al consulado. El costo es US$ 12.00 (Arancel Consular)
Una vez legalizado el documento en las oficinas del Consulado, el interesado o su representante debe ratificar en Chile la firma del Cónsul General en la Sección Legalizaciones del Ministerio de Relaciones Exteriores.
El Departamento de Legalizaciones del Ministerio de Relaciones Exteriores está ubicado en:

Horario de atención: lunes a viernes, de 09:00 a 14:00 hrs.
Tipo de Servicio: Gratuito e inmediato. Si se presenta una gran cantidad de documentos, su entrega se hace al día hábil siguiente.
Para usuarios de regiones: "en caso de residir en regiones, usted puede solicitar el servicio de legalización de documentos en Santiago a través de las Gobernaciones Provinciales o directamente por correo al Departamento de Legalizaciones del Ministerio de Relaciones Exteriores, calle Agustinas 1320, piso 1, Santiago, el cual le devolverá el documento legalizado por la misma vía".

Authentication of Canadian documents (Ontario and Manitoba)
Document must bear the original signature of the issuer or authority.
If not issued directly by a Provincial authority, must be certified by a notary public or lawyer acting as a notary public.
Before bringing the document to the Consulate, the signature and seal of the notary public must be authenticated by the respective provincial authority:

At the Consulate, the Consul will authenticate the signature of the Provincial authority.
The cost is USD $12 per document.
For a document to be valid in Chile, the signature of the Consul must be authenticated in Chile at the Departamento de Legalizaciones, Ministerio de Relaciones Exteriores, Agustinas 1320, Santiago (Tel. 28274614, 28274615).
This is NOT done through the Consulate.
This authentication is free and can be required in Chile by any person.
It can also be requested outside of Santiago through Gobernaciones Provinciales.
