Grade descriptions
Grades for this course will derive from the following four categories and weights:
Tests
Tests count 40% of the course, we will only average about three a quarter, so it will be important to be prepared on test days. I will make sure that the dates of all tests are posted online, and we will always take time in class before the test day to review.
Quizzes
Quizzes generally will cover one or two sections from the unit. On most occasions I will announce the quiz a day or two before. However, there may be unannounced quizzes as well.
Homework
Homework assigned for this course will usually not require more than 20 minutes to complete. Most homework will require practice in reading, writing or speaking in Spanish. Daily review of vocabulary is essential for language acquisition and is always encouraged. I expect students to do daily flash cards and log in an average of 25 minutes per week. Your student will be assigned a log in username and password for online Quizlet activities that go along with their weekly vocabulary. I also expect students to do their work independently and ask for help only after they have given it their best effort. I do not allow students to use any computer translator program.
Internet Homework Notice: You will be required to complete internet assignments as part of this class. This might include grammar exercises, listening/ pronunciation practices, Spanish conjugating websites, etc. Therefore, internet access is required to be in this class. If you do not have internet access at home, the school computers are available in the Library and afterschool in the computer lab. You will also find internet access at any public library and there is free Wi-Fi at Starbucks. No excuse will be accepted for not completing internet assignments on time! Do not wait until the Last Minute to complete Internet Assignments! If you have any questions, please see me or contact me at 464-3011, or email me.
All assignments are to be turned in on time. Failure to complete a homework assignment will result in serving Restricted Study at lunch the following day. YOU MAY TURN IN A LATE ASSIGNMENT FOR FULL CREDIT. Three restricted studies will result in an afterschool detention. Late work will not be accepted after 3 days from the due date.
Class work
The next type of assignment that will figure into the grade for this course will be class work. These assignments will include all work done in the classroom alone or in groups during class time.
Discipline policy
You will have your name placed on the board for talking or disrupting the lesson. Each time after that if your behavior doesn’t improve, you will receive a check beside your name. If you receive two checks in one class period, you will be given a detention. Any behavior that is disrespectful to others, the teacher, or the learning process will result in having your name placed on the board.
