The Department is actively engaged in research works. Research is undertaken by faculty members as well as by registered research scholars. One feature of research works done in the Department is the diversity of areas on which research has been done. Research has been done both in theoretical areas and in empirical areas. Many research works carried on in the Department have been interdisciplinary in nature involving subjects like Economics, Management, Law, Sociology etc. At present there are about fifty registered research scholars working under the supervision of faculty members of the Department. Research works by individual faculty members are published in national and international journals. Faculty members also present the findings of the research works done by them in national and international seminars. The Department also publishes a refereed annual journal, “Business Insight”, which carries research articles by faculty members as well as by outsiders.
The Department had completed several research projects sanctioned by different funding agencies. Among them are: Planning Commission project on Industrialisation of West Bengal, West Bengal Government’s project on Functioning of Cooperative Societies in Burdwan, U.G.C. project on Derivatives Market in India, U.G.C. minor research project on Influence of Human Resource Accounting Information on Managerial Decision Making : An Empirical Study, Other projects are listed as follows:

Manidipa Dasgupta is now working as an investigator/researcher of an interdisciplinary one-year major research study (during the period October 1, 2021 to September 30, 2022.) financed by the National Commission for Women, Government of India entitled "Challenges to Scalability: A comparative study of selected women led MSMEs of West Bengal, Odisha and Bihar" along with three other members - Prof. Sharmistha Banerjee (Professor in Business Administration, C.U.), Dr. Abhik Kumar Mukherjee (Assistant Professor in Business Administration, B.U.) and Dr Ananda Mohan Kar (Associate Professor in Sociology, B.U.) The Department organizes seminars and conferences regularly. The Department hosted the annual conference of Indian Commerce Association twice. In collaboration with the Department of Economics, it also hosted the annual conference of Bengal Economic Association twice. It has also organized annual seminars of Indian Accounting Association (Kolkata Chapter) on several occasions. On an average the Department organizes one national seminar each year. In the past the Department had obtained grants from the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) of the Govt. of India for organizing a national seminar on intellectual property rights (IPR). The Department also obtained grants from the MHRD of GOI for working as IPR Depository. Seminar in the recent past was organized in collaboration with ICAI, AMFI, EDI.
