Blizzard Bag #1

This Blizzard Bag has NOT been assigned.

Below you find instructions for Blizzard Bags One, as well as the poem that students will need to read for this calamity day lesson. Please complete this lesson in a timely manner.

Blizzard Bag One 30 points total

1. Read the poem “Snow Day” by Billy Collins at http://www.poetryfoundation.org/poem/176051

2. After reading “Snow Day”, you will need to write the following response on the attached Google Doc in Google Classroom. List three to five (3-5) examples of sensory description or imagery in the poem “Snow Day”. List any descriptions that appeal to your five senses. What are examples from this poem that help you imagine what the speaker is seeing, hearing, feeling, etc. This will be graded. (10 points)

3. Write your own original poem about your own snow day. This poem must be 20 lines or more in length. The poem must have a minimum of four (4) stanzas with five (5) lines per stanza (Collins had 8 stanzas so I’m cutting that in half.) You are welcome to write more than one snow day poem or a poem that is longer than the minimum requirements of 20 lines.

I can hardly wait to read your poems. This poem must be typed into the Blizzard Bag #1 assignment on Google Classroom. Be sure to do your best work on the poem as this poem will be graded and shared out loud with the class at a later time. (20 points)

Consider doing some outdoor "research" before writing your snow day poem. But dress for the weather and be careful on the ice outdoors.
