1. WRITE ON SPORTS

Write on Sports focuses on middle school students (sixth and seventh graders) to improve their writing by writing about sports. In the past, students would attend camp for two weeks in July. The program turned students into sports writers - they brought in professional journalists (from TV, radio and print media outlets) and athletes (ranging from college, professional and retired professionals) to model a press conference, which allowed students to research and ask questions to each guest and then write about it after their visit.

Because of the uncertainties surrounding the summer, Write on Sports is not going to hold camps this year. In the past, students had to complete applications and they had to be chosen to participate since only limited spots were available for this free program.

This year, they are welcoming any and all students (their focus is on 6th and 7th grade) to participate in online activities. During the month of July, they will host live streams of interviews with athletes and other figures in the sports world. Each Wednesday, a sports journalist will conduct a model interview and discuss key aspects of their jobs. Viewers will then have the opportunity to ask questions, as well. In addition, there will be live polls and other interactive activities to expand on the interview.

Mrs. Romeo sent an email out to parents via Blackboard about Write on Sports. Parents will simply need to reach out to Shannon Schmitt (shannon@writeonsports.org) with their contact info (student name, parent name, parent email, and student email if applicable)
