Albuquerque's Water Cycle

We have started Unit 1: The Water Cycle, that focuses specifically in the water cycle of the Albuquerque area, rather than the basic version of it. We study the specific conditions that affect our immediate surrounding areas.

Students learn that in the semi-arid climate of New Mexico, low precipitation amounts limit the quantity of water available for plant, animal, and human use and that human users of limited water resources must consider all water users.

Learning Targets

  • I can understand and explain how the water cycles through the Earth
  • I can understand and explain the processes involved in the Water Cycle:
        • Precipitation
        • Evaporation
        • Runoff
        • Transpiration
        • Evapotranspiration
        • Respiration
        • Infiltration
        • Percolation
        • Condensation
  • I can understand and explain what a Watershed is
  • I can understand and explain how different Land Areas are Part of the same Watershed
  • I can understand and explain how surface water collects together and only flows downhill
