Grading System

If you ever have any questions on how a project or assignment is graded, please ask. Whenever possible, I try to give feedback about what was done correctly and what could have been done better. Especially check Google Docs and Power School for comments after an assignment has been graded.

My overall philosophy is that students should be graded based on how well they improve over time. While some assignments have a definitive answer such as yes or no, true or false, or a definition, some are more abstract and require understanding the point of view of the student. Except for written assignments, all projects will be graded on how much effort I see put forth from the students. Since I know some students have very little experience with tools or may be intimidated at first, I look at their growth as an engineer and their self directed learning styles.

Along with the percentage grades students get, I am also grading based on the performance standards. Many of the projects align themselves with one or more of hte performance standards and your student will get a 1-4 based on their proficiency in that standard. An explanation of the standards are attached below and if you have any questions please feel free to contact me.
