Medical Terminology

Objective: Medical Terminology is designed to introduce students to the structure of medical terms. The class is taught by a licensed health care professional.

• 3-ring binder / Folder
• Highlighters

GRADING: 40% Major Grades – test, projects and/or research

40% Assessments – medical terminology quizzes, hands on labs, short/minor projects or presentations, etc.

20% Daily Grades – warm ups, worksheets, notecards, etc.

MAKE-UP WORK POLICY Students will have the opportunity to make up assignment if they are absent. Students will receive one additional day for every day they are absent to make up work. Students are responsible to get work they missed and turn it in.

Rules and Expectations

Classroom RULES are as follows:

1. Be prepared to participate every day by bringing required materials to class.
2. Begin the daily warm-up activity when the bell rings.
3. Be respectful and polite to EVERYONE. (Treat others, as you would like to be treated.)
4. When someone is speaking, LISTEN. (EVERYONE wants a chance to be heard.)
5. Respect other people's property as well as school property. (No food or drinks will be allowed in class. Only water is permitted. Professional conduct is expected. No hair combing or makeup/nail polish application is to be done in class.)
6. SHOW VALOR EVERYDAY, EVERYWHERE, To EVERYONE!

My EXPECTATIONS of you:

1. That you are interested and prepared to work; aim to develop professionalism.
2. That you plan to work the entire period.
3. That you plan to work only on this subject in this class
4. That you are in your seat and ready to work when the tardy bell rings.
5. That you maintain the cleanliness of your work area and the classroom.
6. That you bring your own supplies every day.
7. That you turn in your work on time, NO LATE WORK!
8. That when you are absent, you are responsible for the work you missed.
9. That you ask permission before borrowing supplies.
10. That when I ask for your attention you show me your eyes (eye contact insures me that you are focused on what I am saying).
11. Do not use inappropriate language.
12. NO Sleeping During Class.
13. BE RESPECTFUL!
• Attendance issues: You are considered late if you are not inside the classroom when the bell rings.
• Restroom protocol: Each class will receive 10 restrooms pass per grading period.
• Lost work: I supply ONE copy of the assignment. If you lose it then it is your responsibility to go to my web page and reprint it for yourself.

ELECTRONIC DEVICES:

• Cell Phones are to be put away and off at all times, unless otherwise directed by the teacher. There will be times when they will be used, I promise that I will let you know. ☺
• Use of I-Pods, MP3 players or any personal electronic device is NOT permitted during class time. Ear buds are not to be in your ears during instructional time.

Policy on Plagiarism and Technology Rules

Plagiarism is the act of using someone else's words or ideas as if they were one's own. It is even plagiarism to change a few words and give no credit to the author. It is a serious offense, and while you should be gathering ideas from other sources, those sources must be given credit in accordance with the following guidelines:

1. If the exact words of an author are used, whether they are sentences or just phrases, quotation marks must be used and source documented.

2. If an original idea of an author is used, even if it is not copied word for word, that idea must be documented.

3. If phrases from the original work are arranged into a new pattern the source must be documented.

4. If information is found in at least three sources, it is considered common knowledge and need not be documented as long as the original wording is paraphrased, not used exactly as printed.

The following consequences will be enacted when intended plagiarism does exist:

1. A grade of Zero (0) will be given whether the assignment is a daily or major grade.

2. (2016-2017) “Cheating and/or copying (plagiarism) the work of others from any source (Internet, library resources, other student, etc.)” is considered a Level II Violation and WILL result in a referral to an administrator.

• Download or install to hard drive or network any files/data without teacher permission

• Use personal CDs, external hard drives, or USB drives in school computer (without teacher permission)
• Print any unauthorized materials.
