The varsity boys had a great outing against another top ranked opponent finishing a close 2nd. The boys rose to the challenge even short handed and really tried to win the meet. William Gillis finished 2nd in a load front group. The top 4 runners in the race have top 6 state individual rankings attached to them and William beat the #4 and #6 ranked individuals in 2A. Can't fault him for going for it and trying to win but might have gone out a touch too fast (4:48 first mile) but it's just hard to figure out a formula to beat Jimenez from SEW right now. Tate Swartz ran really strong in 6th and had a nice race for the team. The only guys ahead of Tate were state qualifiers last year or highly ranked individuals. Tyson McDole (8th) gave the team a strong 3rd runner with a good run. Tate and Tyson gave us 3 in the top 8 at that point and dead even with Davis County through 3 runners. Vincent Carcamo was missing today and that's where the race would have really got interesting but Junior Oesch really ran exceptionally for us as our 4th man in 13th. One of his best career efforts in relation to that level the competition. Freshman Joe Sheetz put the final stamp on it in 17th giving us 5 boys in the top 17 and all 5 medaled. Joe Sheetz has really had a nice freshman season and we certainly will continue to need Joe's continued progress this year. The boys group continue to put most of their entire team in the top 3rd of the race as Matthew Patience put a nice race effort together in 25th and Jack Greenwood rounded out the varsity efforts in 30th. Jack and Matthew have really had nice improvements this entire season and boost our depth a little. Brandon Vecchio had a nice race finishing 6th in the JV division. Brayden Olson and Isaiah Brunk also ran good races in 12th and 19th with all 3 earning a JV ribbon tonight. Quentin Coffelt was also out tonight with an injury.

The girls achieved their 4th consecutive top 3 team finish and battled the hilly course very well. The bettered all POI competition that was present including Mt Ayr. Harrisen Bevan (10th), Aniston Jones (11th), and Hadley Bell (12th) finished within seconds of each other all collecting a medal. It was a very strong and gritty performance by all 3 runners. We believe overall we have some great hill runners. Sophomore Harrisen Bevan does a good job of putting herself into the right position and the freshman Aniston Jones and Hadley Bell do a great job of following and keying off of that. Kaydee Swartz ran a gutsy race to finish 26th which was important for the team effort. Jamie Oesch (42nd) and Chloe Hamaker (45th) ran together most of the race to round out the scoring efforts and put the final stamp on the team score. Maren Buckingham (57th) is a great consistent effort runner and did a nice job battling through the course. Haley Oesch had some difficulty today and was unable to finish. Mya Applegate also ran a portion of the race well. Ellyson Sheetz and Kylee Rockhold ran strong and improved performances to get a JV award as well.
MS Boys (Top 3 Medal-Top 20 Ribbon)
2nd Ari Johnson 13:06 (15:28 last year)
18th Austin Jensen 15:56 (16:11 last year)
20th Anden Hall 16:12 (18:42 last year)
21st Maddox Kistler 16:14 (16:28 last year)
Ari Johnson is running smart and is starting to take off. His fitness and confidence are coming together and to finish 2nd today on a course that I would have thought might not favored him is showing his growth. That's a very nice time on that course and a 2nd place finish is very exciting. Austin Jensen, Anden Hall, and Maddox Kistler all ran very well in a cluster and are very close. Austin and Anden did pick up ribbons for their top 20 finishes. The boys all improved their times from a season ago.
MS Girls
7th Isabella Carcamo 14:58
8th Cortlynn Cook 15:14
20th Katalena Mothershead 17:12 (18:14 last year)
21st Morgan Buckingham 17:51
28th Bianca Swartz 21:29
29th Keaton Simmerman 25:02
The MS girls finished 2nd as a team and were missing Addy Schreck but came together with a strong overall effort from all 6 girls who ran. Isabella Carcamo looked very good and is showing that she has a lot of potential in 7th and her teammate Cortlynn Cook (8th) is showing that these two 7th graders will be a force to reckon with in the coming years if they stay with it. Katalena Mothershead was the other girl that collected an award ribbon in 20th with a strong mental effort over the hills. Right behind her was Morgan Buckingham in 21st running a consistent pace and then Bianca Swartz (28th) battled to finalize the team score. Keaton Zimmerman (29th) also ran a strong effort for the girls.

The high school boys survived a tough 10 day stretch where we had 3 meets and were down one of our top runners the entire stretch. We ended this window still ranked #9 in 2A with the new rankings today despite the last few meets not going as well as they could have. The boys are looking forward to and hoping to face ranked opponents the next few weeks at full strength.
The boys finished 3rd at Eddyville behind two ranked teams in Pekin and Albia. William led the way again by finishing 2nd. It was an improved race as he finished 18 seconds behind one of the top runners in the state in Jimenez (ranked #3) and ahead of the #7 ranked individual from Pekin. Tyson McDole collected the other medal finishing 8th and had a nice final kick. Vincent Carcamo had a really great race for us finishing 13th and we were ahead of Albia man for man through our top 3 guys. The depth of Albia is how they beat us as they put their next 4 runners before our 4th. Joe Sheetz is regularly stepping up as a freshman into needed varsity spots and finished 27th and Jack Greenwood had a great race to finish 29th in our final scoring spot. Junior Oesch (31st) and Matthew Patience (33rd) are also very capable runners who finished out the varsity team.
Brandon Vecchio was the top JV finisher for our team and ran a good race. He was followed by Quentin Coffelt who was bothered by an ankle injury. Brayden Olson was next for the boys in an improved time from the dual in August and Isaiah Brunk rounded out the JV efforts.

The high school girls have had a nice stretch the last 3 meets finishing in the top 3 each time. They finished a strong 2nd today beating a few teams we rarely if ever have beaten. The girls did run everyone and were led by lone medalists Harrisen Bevan in 9th. She beat some area girls we were hoping to beat in a really good showing. The girls ahead of her were from #2 ranked Pekin (5) and then 3 ranked individuals-so we were happy with where she was able to end up. Hadley Bell is having a nice freshman season and finished 12th and will continue to be a big factor for the girls. Kaydee Swartz (18th) is running well considering she's dealing with some bothersome leg issues, but as a senior is finding a way to contribute to the team's success. Aniston Jones (19th) gave us 4 in the top 20 and we will look for Aniston to continue to contribute and gain consistency with experience. Jamie Oesch is starting to find her stride in 28th as the team's final scoring runner. Haley Oesch is improving and Chloe Hamaker has had a nice start to the season to round out the varsity efforts.
Maren Buckingham did lead the JV with a very solid race and is a consistent effort runner. Ellyson Sheetz and Kylee Rockhold also had much improved performances as compared to the dual in August. Mya Applegate ran a large portion of the race but is still dealing with a leg issue and did not finish.

58th Keeton Zimmerman 22:18
The MS boys had a solid outing led by what might be Ari Johnson's best performance. He moved very well in this race coming all the way up to 3rd by the end. His progression this year has been exciting to see. The pack of Maddox Kistler, Austin Jensen, and Anden Hall all ran well and they are continuing to improve. This group of 8th graders is getting ready to jump into the high school ranks next year.
The MS girls were led by a strong run from Cortlyn Cook who ran tough in the 2nd half of the race. Isabella Carcamo ran much of the race with her but was dealing with some knee pain at the end-however still finished well. Morgan Buckingham and Katalena Mothershead ran well with reliable effort races. Bianca Swartz had her best race of the year finalizing the team score and Keeton Zimmerman ran strong besting some competitors as well to finish out the girls efforts. Addy Schreck is currently out and hopes to return before long.

The girls ran very well and a top 3 finish was a great team result. The girls are starting to turn the corner and are hoping to get senior Kaydee Swartz back next week which will only strengthen the team. A pack of 3 led the way into the medals with freshmen Hadley Bell (11th), Aniston Jones (12th), and Harrisen Bevan (13th). All 3 handled the hills very well and are giving the girls a very competitive pack up front. The other girls are excited to work to step up and continue to fill the gap as the team improves. The course was challenging and the times were solid for the course. Jamie Oesch and Chloe Hamaker had a strong run over the terrain in 29th and 30th and competed very well. Haley Oesch had her best race of the year in 32nd and Maren Buckingham is improving from last year in 40th. The girls in general are a better hill running group than last year and handled the course well. Ellyson Sheetz continues to run strong in the JV division as does Kylie Rockhold who is also much improved. I'm pleased to see the team focus and even girls who weren't running today like upperclassmen Kaydee Swartz and Mya Applegate doing what they can to get the team ready to run and support the runners.

The boys did finish 2nd to a larger school in Winterset. Our kids are very focused on team success-so there was some disappointment in the first defeat of the season, but they are resilient and they are keeping the eyes on the prize later this season. William Gillis may have run the best race of the season winning the meet in 16:51. This was his best execution of strategy all season as he wasn't in a hurry to take the lead and didn't make the final break until the final mile. I'm rarely surprised anymore at what he does but the time did surprise me-that course is very brutal and not conducive of fast times. To go sub 17 for the 4th time in his career at Lake Icaria is impressive. Tyson McDole is finding his groove and running very consistent and medaled in 7th. Vincent Carcamo and Junior Oesch finished 16th and 18th in solid efforts, but they would probably feel like it wasn't their top performance. Freshman Joe Sheetz is really stepping into a gap for the team as the final scorer today in 19th. Matthew Patience ran a great race and just fell off near the end of the race a little, but was around 20-25 much of the race finishing 27th. Quinten Coffelt (32nd) ran well and is much stronger this year than a year ago in his 2nd varsity race this season. Jack Greenwood and Brayden Olson had good races in the JV division in 5th and 6th. Isaiah Brunk also was solid as a recent addition without a lot of practice time. The boys were also without some impact runners in Tate Swartz and Brandon Vecchio who has also been varsity at times. The boys hope to return to full strength in another couple weeks.

The boys continue to look impressive even missing two guys tonight. It's the 4th win in a row and from a team standpoint what really stood out was that our chase pack closed the gap incredibly from our lead pack. That's such a huge deal for us team wise. That gives us breathing room and allows us to withstand times when we are short handed. William Gillis has closed a workout in practice with a 4:48 mile so we knew it would happen soon. He followed the kid from SEW who looks superhuman and just held on. They hit the mile around 4:54, 2 miles at 10:10, and held on for dear life in the last 1.1 in around 6 minutes. Final time was 16:02 topping a 22 year record from Jamie Stanford. Tyson McDole who is a state qualifier from a year ago ran a PR in 3rd and had a strong final mile. Vincent Carcamo ran a PR to medal in 8th and Jr Oesch had a solid race in 10th place to medal. Joe Sheetz continued to get stronger as a freshman just missing a medal in 16th running and rounded out the scoring today. Joe had a great MS season last year and is taking off again. Matthew Patience also finished top 20 and Jack Greenwood also runs a PR in 22nd to finalize the varsity score with 7 in the top 22. Quentin Coffelt ran a big PR winning the JV race dipping under 20 minutes. Isaiah Brunk also medaled in the JV race.

The high school girls ran one of the best team performances of the decade even though it was early season. With 4 girls up front in a way we've not seen before and they ran a strong 2nd finishing behind a good PCM team by 14 points. 3 CD girls dip under the old school record. Harrisen Bevan went 7th with a big PR and Hadley Bell went 8th with an identical time and shared the new school record at 21:57. Harrisen's performance was kind of expected as she's been training exceptionally well and very consistent. Hadley has been out with a hamstring injury the last two weeks and so we were unsure about even racing today-but she looked really strong. Aniston Jones not to get lost in the shuffle ran incredible as a freshman as well in 12th with the 3rd best time on schools all time 5k list. Kaydee Swartz who is a senior and the previous record holder gave the cardinals the strongest 4th runner we've ever had in 21st and was a big scoring factor. Chloe Hamaker ran strong in 38th to finalize the team scoring. Jamie Oesch and Maren Buckingham also gave good races to round out the varsity team. Elly Sheetz broke into the JV medals and Kylee Rockhold tied her PR as well.

40th Keaton Zimmerman (her chip must have malfunctioned)
The MS girls ran a super strong race up front and did enough as a team to beat Pleasantville at their home meet after they got us at ours. Addyson Schreck continues to win and is undefeated this season with 3 in a row now. Isabella Carcamo was her closest competition with a breakout race in 2nd. Cortlyn Cook finished 6th to also medal. Morgan Buckingham and Katalena Mothershead were critical in finalizing the team scoring in 20th and 26th to give the girls their first team win of the season. Bianca Swartz improved and Keaton Zimmerman keeps pushing herself each week.
MS Boys (No team score)
5th Ari Johnson 10:53
25th Austin Jensen 12:56
28th Anden Hall 13:49
29th Maddox Kistler 13:53
Ari Johnson led the MS boys and continues to develop and improve in a very strong 5th place finish. He in many ways is just scratching the surface but has found himself a regular in the medals this season with a 90 second improvement over a year ago here. Austin Jensen is giving very solid race efforts and is consistent in 25th. Anden and Maddox continue to improve with top 30 finishes.
9-8 CD Home Meet
Great job tonight! High school boys win their 3rd in a row-with 5 medalists. Near misses on the school records! High school girls also ran well getting 3rd with two medalists. MS girls get two medalists and 2nd as a team and MS boys didn't quite field a scoring team. The temperature was chilly but really ideal temps for fast times. This course is 5k and hilly and exactly the same as last year so some nice time comparisons. I tried to get pictures of medalists but missed Cortlyn-maybe someone could post one. Addy and Cortylyn MS medalists. Harrisen and Aniston HS girls medalists. William, Tyson, Tate, Jr, and Vincent.
