Process for Requesting IT infrastructure
ITS Design involvement in a construction/renovation project can help assure that the campus network is prepared to support your network communications requirements. If you need 3 or fewer faceplates, you can request these directly through the ITS HelpDesk (368-HELP). A larger project can benefit from earlier involvement from ITS in the project phases outlined below. Please engage ITS appropriately early in your project.
Schematic design
Your architect and/or designer(s) have primary responsibility for articulating project goals, requirements and cost estimate. The standards on this site include recommendations to designers for configuring network services for typical spaces. ITS Design will provide assistance in customizing ITS services and connectivity.
Provide IS Design with an overview of your project highlighting its IT opportunities and challenges.
If estimated faceplate quantities are available, ITS can provide an estimated budget for network equipment.
Design Development
Assure that your designer has the current CWRU infrastructure standards, from this site.
Provide ITS Design with DD drawings showing projected faceplate locations and types.
ITS Design reviews drawings
for network service alternatives and opportunities
for required and available network capacity
ITS initiates the design for network additional capacity as necessary; and provides you with a budget for network equipment.
Construction Documents
Provide ITS Design with the IT layers and specifications of the NN% Construction Documents. ITS Design reviews for conformance and provides comments for inclusion in the 100% construction documents.
Construction
Notify ITS when construction has been awarded. ITS will assign an ITS Project Manager for coordination with ITS activities and operations.
Provide the ITS Project Manager with the CIP or Speedtype to which to charge central IT equipment. Update the Coordinator with IT-related schedule and progress updates.
The ITS Project Manager may inspect rough-in construction to catch issues early in the construction.
Order other ITS services as necessary through ITS standard ordering procedures. E.g. Analog phone lines and telemetry connections.
Acceptance
Notify the ITS Project Manager when the construction is ready for inspection
ITS will spot inspect for conformance to specifications, and activate default services.
Provide the ITS Project Manager with final IT documentation such as the faceplate layer of as-built drawings, and cabling test results.
