Preparing for IB Learning
During their Junior and Senior years, IB students complete a two-year course of study in six subject areas:
Literature written in English
World Languages (Spanish at CHS)
Individuals and Societies (Economics)
Experimental Sciences (Biology)
Mathematics
An Additional Course in the Arts, or another IB Elective (Visual Arts, Choral or Instrumental Music, or History)
In addition to academic studies, Diploma candidates prepare and carry out IB Core Requirements, including
A Course called Theory of Knowledge (TOK)
An Extended Essay that focuses on a world question, issue, or concern
In IB, you will think deeply and critically in every subject, and you will be joined by other students who want to do the same! The IB Diploma Program also focuses on global and interdisciplinary connections.
Pathways to the IB Diploma Program
There are many pathways to and through the IB Program. The following charts are intended to give you an idea of some scenarios that can lead into and through the program.
Sample IB Schedules
Student schedules during their Junior and Senior year in the IB Diploma Program are a little different than students outside of the program. Whereas most courses in the high school are scheduled based on a 4-block semester, wherein students take 4 courses everyday each semester to earn a single credit each, IB courses are scheduled on an alternating block schedule. This means that IB courses meet every-other-day (A day/B day) for the entire year.
The IB Coordinator works with students and the counseling staff to develop IB Schedules that match each students' interests and priorities.
The following sample schedules are provided to give you an idea of the various routes that students have taken through the IB Diploma Program.
