Expectations

AP Statistics

Mrs Aitchison 2023 – 2024

Attendance:

The school policy on attendance (see student handbook) will be followed.  If you know you will miss class due to an excused absence, it is your responsibility to see me before this absence about the work you will miss.  You will also need to see me after an absence to get any missed notes and papers (hopefully this will be reduced with our packets).  If this missed work is not done in a timely manner, you will receive a zero for it. Assignments are on my website (or in Google classsroom) for the entire week. If you are absent, you are advised to check the website for assignments. If you are waived from class, you are expected to see me in advance to get work and turn in assignments that are due. This is an AP class and we move quickly so do what you can to avoid missing classes.

Warrior Way:

Follow the warrior way in class.

BYOD:

When not being used as a class and with teacher permission, cell phones should be away and silent.

Preparation for Class:

You are expected to be prepared for class each day.  That includes having all of the appropriate materials needed for class (textbook, notebook, writing utensils, and completed preparation assignment).  It is expected that you will come to class ready to work and to learn.

Notebook:

You need to bring a notebook to class each day.  There will be many worksheets distributed throughout the year. I suggest getting a folder or a 3-ring binder to hold these pages.

Homework:

Preparation and practice assignments will be posted in the classroom and on my website. These  daily prep/practice assignments will not be graded.  Answers to practice problems will be posted and you are expected to check your answers. If you have trouble with a practice problem, you should come to class or email me  with specific questions to ask which will aid you.  If you want to do well, you need to practice. Sometimes there will be preparation assignments that may include watching a video or reading a chapter. These are designed to prepare you for discussions that will be taking place in class.

Tests, Quizzes, Projects:

Tests will cover a unit in the text (3 - 6 chapters).  They will be announced several days in advance and will contain both multiple choice and free response questions (just like the AP test).  Quizzes may be announced or unannounced and will cover material from a few lessons.  At least one quiz will be given per chapter (except for chapter 1). Projects will be assigned during the year.  Specifics on these will be given at the time of their issuance.

Deadlines/ Late work policy:

Deadlines will be given for all projects and graded assignments.   Students need to start projects early to ensure enough time to complete the assignment and ask any questions that may arise during project completion.  Please note:  assignments and projects are due at the beginning of your class period on the due date. If you come to school late on the day something is due, you will be expected to bring the assignment to me when you arrive at school or it will be considered late. If you leave school before class on the due date, you must turn in the assignment before you leave. In other words, if you are on school grounds at all the day an assignment is due you are responsible for that assignment and must turn it in to me or place it in my mailbox. Per the Math Department Late Work Policy, you will lose 10% of the possible points for each school day the assignment is late. Once the assignment is corrected and returned to students, the assignment will no longer be accepted and you will receive a zero for it.

Cheating:

You are expected to turn in your own work. Cheating and copying work is not accepted. The school policy on academic dishonesty will be followed.

Textbook:

You need to keep a book cover on your book at all times.  Any and all damage to your book (including water damage) will result in a fine. You should bring your book to class each day.

Calculator:

You should have a TI 83 or TI 84 for this class. We will be using it in class and you will need it for assignments outside of class. You can use the calculator on all parts of the AP Statistics exam.

Extra Help:

If you are having trouble, you need to let me know.  Don't be afraid to ask questions.  I am available most afternoons for extra help -- just make an appointment. Appointments can also be made for before school or during school when I am not in classes. My office is in the math office, room 109.

Grading Policy:

Your grade will be based on graded problems, projects, quizzes and tests. Your grade will be based on points earned divided by possible points.  Grades will be posted on Power School. Final exam will be given in May.

AP Stats is a great course and I look forward to working with you this year as together we strive for a 5!
