VOCATIONAL

Each student enrolled in Canton Academy who does not attend day school at CHS is encouraged to obtain gainful employment, volunteer, or participate in community service to gain Vocational Education credit. These students must provide documentation of a supervisor or contact person who will monitor their employment or volunteer work for credit purposes. Each student will submit time sheets along with a quarterly evaluation form completed by their supervisor at the work or volunteer placement. Canton Academy Coordinator will assist students with their job/volunteer search and application process, as well as monitor the student's progress and provide periodic feedback throughout the course of the semester.

SMALL GROUP

Canton Academy offers the best practices in small group educational instruction, including interdisciplinary units, web-based curriculum, and hands-on learning. Teachers are able to individualize instruction based on the needs of the small group and the students who make up the group. At Canton Academy, students enjoy a very low teacher to student ratio. All classes are taught in a small group setting in which each and every student gets individualized attention from the teacher. With fewer students, teachers work one-on-one with all students to ensure they are interested and engaged in all course material. Teachers encourage students to work cooperatively and collaborate with one another on daily assignments and class projects. Students have the opportunity to reflect upon their work and offer their unique perspectives on course material in a small, comfortable learning environment. Active involvement and participation in the small group is imperative for each student's success as a Canton Academy student.
