*** We are currently evaluating whether or not our Assessment setup will work this year. If you have older students that have had us previously, this year may look a little different. Please bare with us. ***
This year will be taught in a different fashion. We have developed a style of assessment we have named "reverse rigor." This will be a system in which we believe will get the most out of every student and create an assessment that will be tailored to your needs specifically. Here is the breakdown of how this year will work.
Our year is broken up into large units.
We will have direct instruction about 3-4 times each 2-3 weeks. The rest of the time we will be using that information to further knowledge with in class activities, lessons, quizzes and prep assignments.
Throughout the unit, the students will be given questions to answer. This will will serve both as a study guide as well as a resource for the Unit Test…IF COMPLETED. These questions will be essay and extended response form. Every question will be attached to a Learning Target that in turn is attached to a Content Statement from the Ohio Department of Education. These will be given at the beginning of the unit and are expected to be worked on throughout the unit
Students who complete the Assessment will be able to utilize them as a resource. Students who choose not to complete the Assessment will not have that option available.
We will then reteach and answer questions on any problem areas of the content. The students should have individualized and focused areas for improvement.
We have found that students have shown great improvement over time in the skills of writing and answering very multilayered questions. This translates very well to the "Common Core" parts of Language Arts. If a student works and is diligent in this process we are very confident that they will achieve grades that meet or exceed their expectations.
Studying for a test should be done with smarter not harder work. By this I mean use what you know to find out what you do not know. Follow these steps in studying:
1. Try to do review without looking at notes or book.
2. Check your answers against my answers found in the web.
3. When you find a question that you do not know at all circle it.
4. The answers you know should be removed from what you study.
5. The questions you did not know should be focused on and found in the notes. Reread the NOTES and then try to answer the review question missed.
6. Repeat the process again narrow the answers that you do not know.
7. For a final study - try to answer the review questions again without looking at notes.
8. Anything you do not know use the book to help find answers.
