Introduction:
Welcome to High School Math, a class designed to deliver individualized math instruction and/or prepare students for the content delivered in Algebra 1. Instruction will be based on a student’s areas of need, as determined by diagnostic testing in the beginning of the year and continuous progress monitoring, as well as Boulder Valley School District curriculum.
Standards for Mathematical Practice:
Technology:
We will regularly use technology in class. If you have a smartphone, laptop, tablet, or Chromebook you are welcome to bring your device to class. This does not mean that you will be able to use it every class or for the whole class period. When asked, technology must be put away.
This class will emphasize using appropriate tools strategically. Students will be encouraged to use calculators and the internet (including online resources such as Khan Academy as well as Google) to seek out assistance in solving problems. The class will emphasize evaluating the reasonability of information found on the internet.
Mastery is important; the timeline is not. You will be allowed to retake any quiz or test once, within 5 days of receiving your original quiz back.
We’ll use outside practice for many purposes. It will be used to practice new concepts and skills. It will be used to explore previously unseen topics. And it will give you a chance to apply your knowledge to new situations. The majority of your practice will be on IXL or Khan Academy, however, if you do not use your class time wisely you may have additional practice to complete at home.
If you have been absent it is your responsibility to get the work (including tests) made up within 1 week of your absence.
Grades will be updated consistently (at least weekly) and will be available on Infinite Campus.
