We finished creating our 7" mural, and proudly displayed it on our float in the Broomfield Days parade this year. This piece of art was designed by Mr. Posey and was colored and embellished by every student and adult in the school.
At our local Broomfield Community Art Show, we displayed 35 exemplary pieces of art from Kohl students. Thank you to the students who were chosen for making such amazing art.
We need large Styrofoam pieces for a 2nd grade art project.
In 2nd grade we are working on upcycled art, art that uses things that would get thrown away and end up in a landfill to make art. If you have any large (or small) styrofoam packing pieces from things like new TVs, microwaves, toys, please bring them in and we will use them to make art.
Kohl PTA, thank you so much for the new painting and coloring tools for our students to use. It gives them a much larger selection of colors and choices, and really goes a long way in helping them make some beautiful and classy art!
All after-school art clubs are now full, except for the 5th grade painting club. Sorry, I received over 75 emails in 2 days. Hopefully we can make it work next year.
Check out our new Kohl Colts float. Mr. Posey built the wood structure, intermediate students made a painting to create a mosaic on the base, and the primary students decorated a piece of cloth for the colt's mane.
Clothes on Art Day
While we do everything we can to stay clean in art, mistakes happen. I would recommend that students avoid wearing their favorite or fancy clothes on art day, like a signed Broncos jersey or a hard to wash dress. Our paint is washable, if dealt with within a day or so. Other things like oil pastels can be harder to wash out.
Art Enrichment and Clubs
After school art clubs are offered to any Kohl student (1st through 5th grade) who shows an extraordinary talent or interest in making and learning about art. Clubs meet on Tuesday’s after school from 2:35-3:25 in the art room and are capped at about 20 students. The sessions available are as follows:
Session 1 (1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th Grade) September 18 through October 23
Session 2 (1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th Grade) October 30 through December 11
Session 3 (1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th Grade) January 29 through March 5
5th Grade Painting Club (5th Grade Only) April 2 through May 14
To sign up for a session you must e-mail me at timothy.posey@bvsd.org and please include the following information:
1. Student(s) Name and Classroom Teacher
2. The session for which you are interested in signing up (if you have no preference you will be given the earliest available session)

Website
If you would like to look at grade level yearly plans, grading rubrics, and project descriptions, I will be continually updating our Kohl Art Website this year so you can follow along with our art education. Year-Long Plans are posted, and project descriptions and rubrics will be posted as we do them throughout the year.
In art we follow the ideals of R.I.D.E.
Respect - Be kind to others, take care of materials, and listen to Mr. Posey.
Integrity - Try to do the right thing even when Mr. Posey isn't looking.
Determination - Always try your best, don't quit early, and use your time for art.
Equity - Share with others, look out for one another, and always use your heart
In art classes at Kohl, we learn that art is about observing, reflecting, creating, and connecting.
1. Observe. Art is about looking carefully.
2. Reflect. Art is about thinking deeply.
3. Create. Art is about making things.
3. Connect. Art connects us to other people, our community, and the world.
June 1st, 2015: Our Kohl Mural made in the fall of 2014 is to be displayed permanently at Paul Derda Rec Center in Broomfield. Read the article by clicking here. We will be making another group mural at the beginning of this school year to be displayed on the Kohl float during the Broomfield Days Parade.
