Hello, my name is Tim Posey (Mr. Posey to the students) and I am the visual arts teacher for Kohl Elementary. This will be my 8th year at Kohl, and I have greatly enjoyed my time here.
As Kohl's art teacher, I want to teach my students the skills that will allow them to express themselves visually. I try to give my students a variety of materials and choices throughout the year so that the art that they make is personal and relevant to their own lives, and they have as many opportunities for success as possible.
Through art we make connections. We connect to ourselves, our family, friends, and community, our town, state, country and world. By making connections through art, the artist becomes a part of an ongoing dialogue, continually evolving both the way that art is created as well as the purposes of making art. As much as possible, I want my students to be part of this artistic dialogue. Our art making is "authentic". That means that we create art in the same way that a professional artist would, and treat our artwork with the care and pride of a working artist.
It is my opinion that anyone can make art that is successful. There is no exact way to make a piece of art, and each student artist is given the time and opportunity to develop their own style and to make art that is personal. While there may be specific techniques to practice, which may have a certain procedure, these are merely tools to create something more: unique and personal artwork.
More about me:
I have lived in Colorado my whole life and grew up in the small town of Frederick. I have always been interested in art and music, and have worked in the arts in many capacities over the years.
I studied art and art education at the University of Northern Colorado. During this time I took a wide variety of studio arts and art history classes, in addition to my teaching classes, and received my BA in art education in 2007. After graduation, I worked as an artist and musician in Fort Collins where I now live, and in 2011 returned to UNC and received a Master's Degree in elementary education.
In my own time, I make acrylic paintings and run an online business through which I sell polymer clay figures of cartoon and pop-culture characters. I also like to watch movies, play the piano, and read books.
Please feel free to contact me with any concerns or questions. My email is timothy.posey@bvsd.org
