Kindergarten Standards at a Glance

Literacy

• Identify and name upper-and lower-case letters, matching those letters with their sounds, and printing them

• Recognize and produce rhyming words

• Count and produce syllables.

• Read grade level sight words.

• Read emergent level text with understanding.

• Interact with text during reading experiences and discuss.

• Share events, opinions, or facts through a combination of writing, dictating and/or drawing.

Math

• Count to 100 by 1s and 10s.

• Write numbers from 1-20.

• Count and represent objects to 20.

• Represent addition and subtraction.

• Solve addition and subtraction problems up to 10.

• Given a number 1-9, give the number that could be paired with it to equal 10.

• Compose and decompose numbers from 11-19 using tens and ones.

• Identify and describe shapes.

• Describe measurable attributes of objects (length, weight, height, price)

Science Big Ideas:

• Objects can move in a variety of ways that can be described by speed and direction.

• Objects can be sorted by physical properties, which can be observed and measured.

• Organisms can be described and sorted by their characteristics.

• The Sun provides heat and light to the Earth.

Social Studies

• Explore differences and similarities in the lives of children and families of long ago and today.

• People belong to different groups and live in different settings around the world that can be found on a map or globe.

• Identify the difference between personal wants and needs.

• Participate in making decisions using democratic traditions.

• Categorize examples of people and events that relate to civic participation

• Give examples of qualities of a good citizen.

• Practice citizenship skills including courtesy, honesty, and fairness in working with others.
