From Jessica Arment:
Many authors, illustrators and publishing companies are changing their permissions in light of school closures. Author Kate Messner created this amazing list of copyright and fair use updates that she will continue adding to. If a publisher isn't on this list you can email them directly to request their guidelines.
Fountas and Pinnell Remote Learning Suggestions- Not sure how helpful these suggestions are, but our interpretation of the blog is that they do NOT want F&P published, student print material scanned and sent out online. If there is other supporting material already online, use that.
As for e-books/audiobooks you can assign to students that allow simultaneous use, I suggest starting with SORA, MackinVIA or GetEpic! (for the younger ones only reading picture books there is also Storyline Online, Vooks, and Tumblebooks, which can be accessed through the Student 1 BPL Database, directions are in this doc). We also have non-fiction databases with articles that can be read simultaneously. These include PebbleGo/PebbleGo Next and World Book Encyclopedia Online.
If you look at the bottom of this Online Resources for Students doc. you will see details around SORA and MackinVIA, our two subscription platforms for e-books and audiobooks. There are a number of other high quality fiction and non-fiction titles on GetEpic! (also in that doc.). All of these platforms enable students to view/listen to books on a web browser such as Google Chrome, but they can also download the apps if they are using a tablet or phone. You can log-in to view the books available. In MackinVIA you will see the availability underneath the book title. Look for ones that say Available: Multi-user. The simultaneous use books haven't loaded into SORA yet, but they should be there in the next couple days. I imagine they will probably be featured in a special collection on the "Explore" page in SORA, but I will pass along that information when we receive it (I just emailed to ask).
