Interventions

Tier I instruction and Tier I interventions happen in the classroom, and are accessible to all students.  Teachers regularly use differentiated instruction, especially through math workshop, literacy stations, or other small group opportunities to provide students with academic interventions to address learning gaps or deficiencies, and to collect data on the student's response to these Tier I interventions.

Consider supports below for students who show signs of struggling with academic work. These links are updated as different options become available.

All schools: Contact content supervisor(s) to provide tips or resources for implementing and collecting data on Tier I interventions. Content Area Administrative Responsibilities . Staff members may also contact the appropriate teacher leaders for support and suggestions. (staff access only)

All schools: Contact A. Britt or the appropriate tutor(s) from the Virtual Tutoring Website (begins in October) and ask to invite the student to the appropriate grade Tutoring Google Classroom(s) for free evening support.  Students can join themselves with the posted join codes, but sometimes us "pushing" the invitation to them is more effective.

All schools: Share the appropriate Family Guide with the student's family to clarify expectations and provide some manageable suggestions for at home support.

Tier II interventions are targeted interventions which may occur in the classroom or in an alternate setting for students who do not make adequate progress after receiving Tier I interventions over a sustained period of time.   These students continue to receive Tier I instruction, but they receive Tier II intervention (either in lieu of or in addition to Tier I intervention) which is increasingly intensive and matched to their needs based on their performance and rate of progress.  Tier II intervention may be delivered by a classroom teacher, or an alternate staff member. Tier II intervention may occur during the school day/year, and/or as an extended day/extended year (e.g summer) program.  Data is collected to track the effectiveness of the intervention. Staff seeking a Tier II intervention for a student for whom collected data indicates no growth or low growth after at least 6 weeks of Tier I intervention may refer to the links below. These links are updated throughout the year as different Tier II interventions become available.

All schools: Log in to Frontline RTI and complete a Request for Assistance form to refer to I&RS (staff access only)

All schools: If "daytime" tutoring is available, schools will receive direction about how to file a Request for Daytime Tutoring for Eligible Students (staff access only)

Tier III interventions are individualized, intensive interventions which may occur in the classroom but typically occur in an alternate setting. These interventions are reserved for a small percentage of students who did not respond to or demonstrate appropriate growth after intensive Tier II interventions delivered over a sustained period of time.  If you are seeking more information about Tier III options for a child, contact abritt@burltwpsch.org to discuss the specific situation.
