Services for Gifted Students

Bellbrook-Sugarcreek Schools are proud to support the growth of gifted and talented students. This support is evident by the fact that approximately twenty district employees (teachers or administrators) hold a teaching endorsement in the area of gifted education. Gifted students may experience a wide variety of instructional programming in each of our schools. At Stephen Bell, we offer early entrance to Kindergarten, whole-grade acceleration and gifted cluster groups (gifted students are sometimes placed in the same classroom). At Bell Creek Intermediate, some gifted students may qualify for a unique opportunity called, STEP. STEP class meets one half-day per week, where students work on interdisciplinary projects and research topics of interest to them. Gifted English Language Arts and Gifted or Accelerated Mathematics are also possibilities. The difference between "gifted math" and "accelerated math" is that gifted is on grade level, but enriched, while accelerated math is a grade level above the student's homeroom grade. Students who are accelerated must meet very specific criteria, including rigorous testing. If accelerated, the student must take the appropriate above grade-level state AIR assessment. Bellbrook Middle School offers Gifted ELA and Accelerated Math. Once students enter Bellbrook High School, Honors or Scholarship level classes are options to provide students with an academic challenge. We offer many Advanced Placement (AP) and college-level classes which can be taken while meeting high school graduation requirements.
