Central Office Receptionist

DUTIES: The Receptionists are responsible for handling questions, problems, payments, applications, etc., from co-op members and the public. This position involves extensive public contact, telephone work, paperwork & data entry. The receptionists answer the phones; work at the counter; open the office; distribute and answer mail; and write up payments. They also help out in the Housing Department and the rest of the office with data entry, filing, and other general office work.
REQUIREMENTS: This job requires a lot of patience and tact, as well as a good manner (and willingness to work with) the public. You must be able to work 20 hrs/week between 10am & 5pm Monday thru Friday in the Summer and Spring and 15 in the Fall. You must be dependable, friendly, and able to keep calm in a hectic office situation. You must have good data-entry skills, type at least 50 wpm, and must be able to follow directions and learn quickly. You must have 6 months prior work experience, including some office experience. It helps if you know something about BSC policies and application procedures, but it is not a prerequisite. You must be a BSC member and meet student eligibility guidelines to hold this job. You cannot hold a unit-level manager position or be on the Board of Directors and hold a Central Level job.
HOURS/PAY: This is an 10-hour/week position, compensated with a rent credit at $22.00/hour for five hours/week and fulfilling your five-hours/week workshift requirement. Apartment dwellers and summer residents will receive an additional rent credit stipend for the five workshift hours (at $22.00/hour), as this job does not replace the workshift requirement in these instances.
If for whatever reason this job begins mid-semester, the stipend will be prorated. This position starts ASAP and lasts indefinitely. A one-year commitment is preferred.
