From English Austin

To correct my 50th Reunion Yearbook bio: my favorite professor was John Rowe Workman,

my advisor with whom I corresponded for a very lomng time. Additional professors highly

respected were Charles Arthur Lynch, Charles Alexander Robinson & John Ambrose!

The Classics Department gave me a lifelong love of Latin and Ancient History and Anthropology

which I have tried to pass on to my children and Grands.

Leslie and I are buying a home at the Four Lakes Golf Club in Winter Haven Florida. I was on the

golf team in High School but have not played since then. If the game of golf is like riding a bicycle,

this should work oiut well.

From Glenn Cashion

I was recently named to the Executive Board of Friends of Brown Baseball.

While researching his family genealogy, Glenn discovered that his great-great uncle Thomas T. Fallon had received a Congressional Medal of Honor for his exceptional bravery during the Civil War. Glenn also discovered that Fallon's Medal of Honor, as the result of administrative oversight and in the absence of known family, had been on display for over 60 years at Dickinson College in Carlisle PA. Through his diligent efforts, Glenn was able to acquire the Medal of Honor, and thereby restore it to Fallon's nearest surviving relative, Glenn.

My Pandemic Story

For my 80th birthday last year, my wife, Stephanie, and my daughters used the Tribute Program and asked family, friends, business associates and Delta Phi Fraternity brothers to provide a video response. 130 invitations were sent out and we received 115 responses. The videos were wonderful and the contributions contained many stories from the past. When ever the shutdown got me down, I had these memories to bring sunshine into our home.

My husband Fritz and I enjoyed last June's mini-reunion in Philadelphia. Last October, we drove through some of California from San Francisco to Yosemite to the coast to our final stop in Pasadena for the exciting second birthday of my son and his wife's child, Olivia. At Christmas, I heard from Peter G. McDonald's widow Jill that their son Jamie now runs their lovely Inchinnan Farm in Wilsonville, OR and is busy planting the new (2014) Eastern Hazelnut Blight resistant cultivar, McDonald on the farm. Announcing the release of the new cultivar in January 2014, Oregon State University breeder, Shawn Mehlenbacher said, "[Peter] McDonald was instrumental in funding the breeder position at OSU and kept hope alive when Eastern Filbert Blight, a fungal pathogen, threatened hazelnut production in Oregon...he pushed for a brighter future." A well-deserved honor, possibly unique among alumni in our class! Future travels for me and Fritz will be the Lower Rio Grande Valley this winter and Turkey next October.

My Pandemic Story

With the exception of an occasional foray into MA for shopping, we’ve been locked in to RI since last March. We do weekly zoom contacts with our family members in VA and NJ, and our granddaughter is just across the compound from us. I’ve been active in several community organizations and am currently serving a president of the Lifelong Learning Collaborative. LLC that is a peer led program for seniors which transitioned to a fully zoom-based program once Covid struck. Now 10% of our 500 members come from out of our local area, and our challenge is how to accommodate both in person and zoom based courses as the restrictions recede. Keeps me plenty busy!!

Still buoyed by memories of the great 50th. Wasn't it grand that the rain stopped just as the

parade gathered and the sun came out just as we began to march? And how we led the singing of

"Ever true" all the way down the hill? But the disappointment that the four or five recent classes

didn't know the song.

After graduating from Brown, I spent a 40 year career on Madison Avenue creating campaigns for the likes of the US Army (Be All You Can Be), Lincoln Mercury ("What a Luxury Car Should Be") as well as less glamorous accounts, EG Advil and Chef Boyardee. At the age of 65 I quit the ad business and turned to fiction writing.

I've since written six McCabe/Savage thrillers, all six published by Harper Collins. My heroes, Mike McCabe and Maggie Savage are police detectives living and working in Portland, Maine. They include several NY Times, WSJ and USA Today best sellers.

My Pandemic Story

The pandemic interrupted our weekly Apres Ski parties. We quickly switched to Zoom meetings every other Saturday year-round. This was a real boost to our morale, and we all look forward to them. One couple in our group welcomed their first grandchild during the pandemic. I attended the naming ceremony via Zoom from New Hampshire. The parents and baby were in Colorado, the Rabbi was in New York, the grandparents were in New Hampshire. Relatives attended from Israel, South Africa and many other places. What was unique about this ceremony was that the parents and the baby are deaf. There was an interpreter who signed for speaking and spoke for signing so that all could understand. The Rabbi also signed. It was an event that would not have happened under normal times, and I was honored too be a part of it.

I continue to write. My latest book is "New Castle's Kadunce Murders," the saga of the true-crime murder of a mother and child by a Satanist and a suspected killer of three other victims.

It joins my fourth book: Steel: The Story of Pittsburgh's Iron and Steel Industry 1812 - 1902. "Steel" "juxtaposes Allegheney County's metal barons like Andrew Carnegie and Henry Clay Frick with the immigrant labor force who toiled in their mills."

My son Sean Perelman Kanan received a Daytime Emmy nomination for best actor, best show and best writer (as part of a team) for his streaming's series "Studio City."

From Elaine Piller Congress

I am an Associate Dean and Professor at the Fordham University Graduate School of Social Service. My latest book was just published. Behavioral Science in the Global Arena: Addressing Timely Issues at the United Nations and Beyond focuses on the United Nations and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Behavioral scientists are increasingly involved in international work through cross-cultural research, conference presentations, and faculty exchanges. Psychology and social work Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) work at the United Nations, both on providing professional consultation on timely issues, as well as advocating to promote human rights and sustainable development. Although this work at the United Nations is an important arena for behavioral scientists, this has been barely covered in the academic literature.

"What are the growing roles of psychology and social work at the United Nations today?" This first-ever volume brings together over 20 authors--both key experts and student interns--to answer this question. As the United Nations pursues its 17 SDGs for the year 2030, behavioral scientists now occupy increasingly diverse roles to pursue evidence-based answers for the SDGs.

This panoramic yet concise 230-page volume is designed for students and professionals in the behavioral sciences - psychology and social work to provide state-of-the-art information on how behavioral scientists are addressing diverse global issues today. Each chapter offers a concise overview of a topic, including a glossary of current concepts, and citations to current research. The chapter on Promoting Environmental Health: Challenges and Successes was authored by George Garland, Brown '63, who is President of the southern New York United Nations Associations.

The book is unique because it provides current content on the UN and related topics, has an interprofessional approach as chapters were written by social workers, psychologists, heads of NGOs, UN officials and a medical doctor. Significantly, many chapters were co-authored with students, now beginning professionals.

At the United Nations, Elaine represents two NGOs, the International Federation of Social Workers and the Institute of Multicultural Counseling and Education Services.

Here is the cover of the book. If you have any comments or questions, please contact me at congress@fordham.edu, 212-636-6667

Mary and I are well in NJ during these crazy times. Our 3 daughters and five grandsons are well--ages 19,18,14,12 and 12. The oldest is a star athlete at Trinity College waiting to see if he will be on campus this month.

I am still "working", on some boards and doing consulting thru a firm in Houston--have written three articles for the American Bar Association on corporate governance--told I am the only non-lawyer ever to write for them--spent about 3 hours out of ten each day for 30 years working with great lawyers--learned their speak. Mary and I have had some ups and downs health-wise, but are still here.
