Status of Assets for 60th Reunion:
Approximately $6700 in class dues was collected by end of fiscal year, June 30th.
Class of ‘63 approached 55th Reunion with approximately $17,000 and paid out $12,000 in expenses. The present treasury is on target to host the 60th.
172 members supported the Brown Annual Fund from a base of 500. Our goal is to break our giving record at our 60th reunion year.
One issue still to be clarified: are contribution to athletic teams and to special awards counted in the annual fund totals? As follow-up Glenn confirmed that contributions to Brown Sports Foundation (BUSF) count for annual fund numbers. Glenn will provide details to class members in the newsletter and Bravo blasts.
George moved acceptance of the Treasurer’s report, seconded by Mary Lou, and acceptance unanimously
Webmaster Report: George Bryant
It is class policy not to report obituaries on the class website, Facebook page or newsletter. The university subscribes to an obituary algorithm service that updates the class database.
The recent Bravo blast requesting News and Notes yielded one response – none from officers who are tasked with drumming up class news.
Old Business: George and Barbara
Fall Newsletter: A draft newsletter circulated to officers includes an article on proposed 2020 mini-reunion. Officers are asked to edit for typos and advise George.
George agreed to accept a two-week delay in mailing in order to include class scholarship information and current financial status.
Discussion of benefits of annual Mini Reunions; Our Mini-reunions build class spirit. Those who attend have had positive experiences; witness the Charleston reunion packed with activities. The core group of very interested class members encourages others to attend the 60th reunion and contributes to our generous annual giving. Each mini-reunion draws one or two new attendees. Very few classes hold annual mini-reunions; we can see an impact when our reunion participation and contributions break university records.
George will use Bravo blasts to solicit input on the 2020 mini-reunion; dates, location, activities.- specifically a Bravo sent as follow-up to the fall newsletter. Future Bravos will solicit input for the 60th reunion.
Planning Tools: A question was posed about population of class members in Florida. Barbara will pursue class member demographics by state from university.

Attendees: Jennifer Brock, George Bryant, Glenn Cashion, Barbara Langworthy, Fred Parker and Jim Seed.
Glenn Cashion called the meeting to order at 5:05 p.m.

Treasurer’s Report
Fred Parker stated that, as of May 7, 2018, the Class of 1963 had a balance of $3,025 in its Fidelity account and a balance of $6,783 in its Brown account for a combined total of $9,808.
Since March 19, the University charged the Class’ Brown account $950 for the mailing of registration packets to Classmates. Based upon these numbers and discussion at our last meeting, I estimate that the Class will have a total of about $4,000 in its combined accounts as at June 30, 2018
Web Master’s Report
George Bryant reported that he has a quote from ABC Printing/Sebastian & Vero Beach of $298.62 (plus a set up charge of $80.00 plus sales tax and shipping) for 50 copies of a yearbook for the 55th Reunion, including the names, mailing addresses, telephone numbers and email addresses for all Class members, a letter from President Christina Paxson, a Class President’s letter from Glenn, a listing of Class officers and the 55th Reunion Committees, an “In Memoriam” section, a campus map and harder paper covers. He added that the basic charge for 100 copies would be $543.38. It was the sense of the meeting that he should have only about 50 copies of the yearbook printed.
New Business
The officers discussed plans for the 55th Reunion. At the present time 44 Classmates have indicated they plan to attend the Reunion. Glen said he expects at least three more will ultimately commit to attend. The Class has ordered 100 umbrellas as favors for Classmates attending the Reunion. There will not be any entertainment at the Class Dinner on Friday, May 25 at the University Club. Reunion Headquarters for the Class will be in Archibald House.
Jim Seed will contact Classmate Lew Feldstein to ask him to be the speaker for the Class luncheon on Saturday, May 26, 2018. Jose Flores, whom the Class has sponsored by its scholarship program for four years, will attend the luncheon, and hopefully address brief remarks to the Class. He has been accepted into the Brown Medical School’s program.
After the luncheon, there will be a Class photo. Classmates may tour the RISD Museum starting at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday afternoon. The Higher Keys will entertain the Class at its dinner on Saturday night at the Hope Club.
On Sunday, Jim will notify all Classmates attending the Reunion that Dayton Carr has invited them, at his expense, to a beach party at Bailey’s Beach Club in Newport, RI. The dress is casual.
Glenn noted that the Class has to date received a total of $360,950 in gifts or pledges to the Brown Annual Fund for the 55th Reunion, and 46% of its Classmates have made gifts so far. He added that if the Class receives gifts from 45 or 46 more Classmates, the Class will set a 55th Reunion participation record. Polly Talbott, Class Campaigns Officer, has stated she thinks the Class’s goal of $400,000 and 60% participation by Classmates is achievable. She plans another Fund campaign call for the week of May 14. She will assign additional Classmates for the Reunion Participation Committee to contact shortly.
The officers agreed on Monday, July 9, 2018 at 5:00 p.m., as the date and time for the next Class of 1963 officers’ teleconference meeting.
Upon the motion of George and the second of Jim, the meeting was adjourned by the unanimous vote of the officers at 5:44 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
George Bryant, Secretary for the Meeting
MINUTES OF BROWN UNIVERSITY CLASS OF 1963 OFFICERS’ TELECONFERENCE MEETING March 19, 2018
Attendees: Jennifer Brock, George Bryant, Glenn Cashion, Barbara Langworthy, Fred Parker and Jim Seed.
Glenn Cashion called the meeting to order at 5:01 p.m.
Upon the motion of Barbara Langworthy and the second of Fred Parker, the Minutes of the January 17, 2018 Class of 1963 officers’ teleconference meeting were unanimously approved, as emailed.
Treasurer’s Report
Fred Parker stated that, as of March 19, 2018, the Class of 1963 had a balance of $3,019 in its Fidelity account and a balance of $7,770 in its Brown account for a combined total of $10,789.
There have been several changes in our Brown account since January 17, 2018. We received $213 in income presumably from dues payments and there was a charge of $458 for the flyer included in the Reunion packets for the Pembroke lunch. Postage for the Reunion packets has not yet been charged according to Alumni Relations.
Based upon these numbers and discussion at our last meeting, I have made three changes to our budget. I increased dues income from $200 to $1,200 to reflect our actual receipts. I increased our budget for postage by $500, and I added $1,000 as a payment for the Sunday event.
The net result of these changes is to project a total cash balance of $4,410 on June 30. I have no doubt Brown will divine some new charges, and there will be other unanticipated expenses, but I think our goal of at least $3,000 as a cash reserve remains likely.
Web Master’s Report
George Bryant reported that he has a quote from Staples of $675 for 150 copies of a booklet for the 55th Reunion, including the names, mailing addresses, telephone numbers and email addresses for all Class members, a letter from President Christina Paxson, a Class President’s letter from Glenn, a listing of Class officers and the 55th Reunion Committees, an “In Memoriam” section, a campus map and harder paper covers. He added that for 100 copies the quote for the booklet was only $450. It was the sense of the meeting that he should have only 100 copies of such booklets printed, but also attempt to have emailed copies of the booklet available to Classmates upon their request. He will also investigate having email publicity for the 55th Reunion included in the “on line” version of the Brown Alumni Monthly.
New Business
The officers discussed plans for the 55th Reunion. There will be a speaker for the Pembroke luncheon on Friday. There will not be any entertainment at the Class Dinner on Friday, May 25 at the University Club.
Reunion Headquarters for the Class will be in Archibald House. Professor Barrett Hazeltine has accepted the Class’s invitation to join us for dinner, and we will also invite Professor Gordon Wood. Jim Seed will offer Dayton Carr $1,000, to himself or his charity to be designated, for hosting a party at the New York Yacht Club’s facility in Newport, RI. Jim has tried unsuccessfully to contact Dayton to firm up his commitment to that event, and will continue to contact him shortly.
Classmates will have a tour of the RISD Museum starting at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday afternoon, May 26, 2018. Glenn noted that the Class does not yet have a speaker for the Saturday luncheon. However, he added that he will ask Jose Flores, whom the Class has sponsored by its scholarship program, to speak, as well as Classmate Lew Feldstein.
Glenn added that the Class expects 75 to 125 Classmates and guests to attend the 55th Reunion. He noted that the Class has to date received a total of $303,000 in gifts or pledges to the Brown Annual Fund for the 55th Reunion, and 34% of its Classmates have made gifts so far. Additional Classmates for the Reunion Participation Committee to contact will be assigned shortly.
The Class’s Nominating Committee, Jennifer Brock and Jim Seed, reported that the following will be nominated as the slate of Class officers to be in office from July 1, 2018 through June 30, 2023: Barbara Langworthy, President, Vice President to be determined, Marty McCauley, Secretary, Fred Parker, Treasurer, George Bryant, Web Master, 60th reunion Committee Co-Chairs, Mary Lou Levine and Glenn Cashion.
The officers agreed on Monday, May 7, 2018 at 5:00 p.m., as the date and time for the next Class of 1963 officers’ teleconference meeting.
The meeting was adjourned by unanimous consent at 5:39 p.m
Respectfully submitted,
George Bryant, Secretary for the Meeting
