Friedman Study Center
During the winter break (December 2007), when there were no students on the Brown campus, the Brown Club of RI arranged a tour of the new Friedman Study Center, which comprises 3 levels of the Science Library on the corner of Waterman and Thayer Streets.
It is open long hours and supports students' scholarly efforts with individual workstations, collaborative rooms (equipped with whiteboards and projectors), places to relax and a cafe! It is almost always over 90% occupied at any point on weekdays from afternoon into the wee hours. You should make this a part of your next campus visit... along with the Rock and the Hay, which are also being renovated and reshaped to accommodate 3.5 million volumes. Alumni can get a library card for free, and are welcome to borrow materials and use these new spaces. It will help you "make your mind a fit place for your life". A lot has happened in the last half century.......come and marvel at how new technologies are transforming the information landscape!
Science Library; home of the new Friedman Study Center.
14 stories high, it's the place where 3000 students a day come to study and "be seen"!
Vast arrays of computers, study group rooms, copiers......with different zones of noise level
Reunion chair Becky Eckstein and Ed Nicholson are in the "talking zone"
Atrium with planting designed by a Brown student help bring light to this basement, which used to be dingy gray
Bright colors and comfortable chairs enhance the Friedman Study Center
