Reminder about Absences:
(It is the student’s responsibility to meet these timelines, not mine to remind you):
Homework or reports due on the day the student was absent are due the day the student returns from the absence. It is the student’s responsibility to check with the teacher/class website, or class whiteboard for what work was missed during the absence.
If a student is absent on the day of an exam, the student must make up the test within one week of returning to school or the test grade will be a zero.
If a student is absent on the day of a laboratory exercise, the student will need to make up the lab before school on the assigned day. This day will be chosen by the teacher and will be within one week following the missed lab. Please do not assume you can just get data/info from another student. See me for specific directions.
If a student is absent on the day of a quiz, the quiz must be made up within 2 days following the student’s return to school or a zero will result.
Exams and quizzes must be made up on the student’s time and not during class time.
Assignments and assessments that are eligible for the make-up policy will be entered into Aspen as “NYC” (not yet complete) and will average as a zero until the work is made up.
Absence due to a field trip, student council meeting, sports, music dismissal or performance does not count as an absence due to illness and work is still expected by the deadline in these circumstances.
Reminder about ethics:
Behaving ethically is an extremely important part of being a member of society and especially a member of the scientific community. For this reason, it is extremely important for my students to be honest and ethical in their work and interactions in the classroom. Cheating of any type will not be tolerated. This includes cheating on tests by using cheat sheets or calculators with information stored in the memory, copying or allowing someone else to copy on test, homework, quizzes, or lab reports. Although working in teams is often an important component in the chemistry classroom, each student is expected to produce his or her own individual work in their own individual words. You may NOT work with another student on a lab report or homework assignment and turn in the exact same work. Any student involved in cheating will receive a zero for the assignment and the incident will be reported to the Associate Principal’s office.
