MAP Growth & Fluency Assessment

Fall Reports

October 25, 2023

Dear Parent(s)/Guardian(s),

Welcome to our third year of utilizing the NWEA MAP Assessment suite to assist us in personalizing learning for your student. The MAP family of assessments is designed to accurately measure student performance whether they are performing on, above, or below grade level in addition to providing teachers with information regarding instructional strategies for each student. The following assessments are used in each grade span:

Grade Span

Assessment  Measure

K-2

MAP Fluency Assessment (3 times over the course of the school year)

K-8

MAP Growth Math Assessment (3 times over the course of the school year)

3-8

MAP Growth Reading & Language Arts Assessment (3 times over the course of the school year)

Attached you will find your child’s MAP Growth Family Report from the Fall 2023 testing session. Family reports for students with multiple administrations will show growth over time in the areas of math and reading.

This assessment is designed to accurately measure student performance whether they are performing on, above, or below grade level. It is not a summative assessment that shows your child’s level of mastery in grade level material. Rather, it is designed to determine what your child is ready to learn next. The data gained from these assessments helps teachers inform instruction, personalize learning, and monitor the growth of individual students. The test is adaptable; as students get more answers correct, the more difficult the content becomes. It is possible for students to receive questions that they are not familiar with. We encouraged students to take their best guess in those instances. Ultimately, the data is intended to guide instruction and support goal setting.

The MAP Family Guide is also included to assist you in understanding how the Growth assessment works, what it measures, and how to interpret the results.

Students in grades K-2 will not have a MAP Family Report for Reading as they took the MAP Fluency assessment.

The MAP Fluency assessment is roughly 20 minutes in length and students will use headphones and microphones to interact with the assessment online. MAP Reading Fluency measures beginning reader skills, like letter and word knowledge, and it measures oral reading for children who are ready. We use these results to better understand your child’s individual needs and to help them progress as readers. There is not a grade attached to or family report produced for this assessment.

Thank you for your support of your child’s learning and growth.

GOALS GALA

On Thursday, 11/16/23 Lincoln Elementary held its first -ever Goals Gala in third and fourth grades. This was a time for students to review class reports and set goals for themselves. To help in the process, Mrs. Mandi Figlioli, Curriculum Director for K-8 Math, made this slideshow.
