Student Support Services

All Bethel Park elementary schools offer social work support services for students . The services range from individual sessions, family sessions (if requested by the family), and group sessions depending on the need of the child. The groups are geared to support academic, social, and emotional success. Groups and individual sessions focus on the following issues:

· Social Skills

· Peer Relations

· Self-Esteem

· Anger Management

· Family Changes (divorce/separation)

· Grief Support

· Anxiety

Individual sessions, family sessions, and groups are geared to help families in crisis situations such as family transitions, anxieties, and emotional and/or serious behavior issues. Additionally the social worker can provide referrals for outside programs and/or services. All services and referrals are kept confidential except for the Newcomer’s Group.

The student’s teacher, nurse, principal, and/or specialized teacher can refer the student for services pending parent permission The parent can also refer the student for services by contacting the social worker. The social worker and teachers work together to ensure the child continues to be successful.

Newcomer’s Group

Each school year new students become part of the Lincoln Elementary family. As a way to welcome them to the district and their new school the student can participate in the Newcomer’s Group.

This group gives the new students an opportunity to talk about their move to our school, meet new students, and to discuss any problems they may be experiencing. Additionally, a picture is taken of each student which are displayed in the school lobby.

The group meets once a week for a 4 to 6 week period during the school day.
