Week of October 29 - November 2, 2018


Mon. 10/29 - Students had a work period today -- working on examining different media sources on the Era of Good Feelings and working on their Chapter 10 terms which are due tomorrow.
Tues. 10/30 - As a group we examined the Era of Good Feelings, both the positive and negative aspects of it. Ultimately, we worked to answer why this era has this particular title. We then worked on the timeline for this time period 1800-1850. We we access this and continue to add examples throughout the unit. HW: Please identify and take notes on the primary sources for the Era of Good Feelings.
Thurs. 11/1 - In class today we examined the documents on the Era of Good Feelings and viewed a portion of Episode 2 of Slavery - The Making of America, as well as Episode 3 (which we will finish on Monday). HW: Chapter 11 Terms (on Google Classroom or hard copies handed out in class).

Week of November 5 - 9, 2018


Mon. 11/5 - Shortened schedule today due to Parent/Teacher Conferences. The schedule will run periods 1,3,7,5 at about 60 minutes each. We finished our film - Slavery - The Making of America, Episode 3. Chapter 11 terms were collected. HW: Outline, complete the handout, for the Era of Good Feelings DBQ! Due Thursday.
Thurs. 11/8 - In class today we spent much of the class period talking about DBQ essay writing. Students then had a chance to work on their Era of Good Feelings DBQ. Please have a typed, double spaced, essay, printed for class on Tuesday of next week. HW: Complete the essay and read (plus annotate), "The People's Choice" reading. All for Tuesday, Nov. 13.

Week of November 12 - 16, 2018


Mon. 11/12 - No School - Veterans Day Observed
Tues. 11/13 - In class today students worked on the following: peer editing of DBQ essays. If you feel your essay is complete, please turn it in to me with the peer edited rubric attached. If you don't feel the essay is ready to be submitted, please turn it in on Thursday, with the peer edited rubric attached. Students then viewed a video regarding presidents John Quincy Adams through James Polk. Please complete the handout. If time remained, students could begin working on their Chapter 12 terms which are due on Monday, November 19. We did not get a chance to talk about the reading, "The People's Choice" so we'll examine that on Thursday. HW: If essay was not turned in today or if video on president's is not complete, please do so for class on Thursday. All materials for video and terms can be found on Google Classroom.
Thurs. 11/15 - DBQ essays were collected today. We discussed the reading, "The People's Choice" and the president film (both turned in) using these as a platform to talk about leadership and major issues during this time period. HW: Chapter 12 (on Google Classroom) are due on Monday).

Week of November 19 - 23, 2018


Mon. 11/19 - No Class - Even Day Schedule
Tues. 11/20 - In class today, permission slips for Amistad, students worked on document analysis for Andrew Jackson and as a class we examined whether or not Jackson should be regarded as a hero or villain. Students took a practice quiz on this time period and worked on the unit timeline. Chapter 12 terms were collected. HW: Chapter 13 terms are due on Thursday, November 29.
Wed. 11/21 - No School - Holiday Break

Week of November 26 - 30, 2018


Mon. 11/26 - In class today, students worked on the 1800-1850 timeline activity. We have been working on it over the course of the last few weeks. Students got their DBQ on "Era of Good Feelings". Sign up for Flex if you'd like to go over your essay. Re-writes are due by Friday, November 30. HW: Smithsonian article "Pay Dirt" . Due Tuesday. Read, highlight and take notes. The article was given out in class today but if you were absent, feel free to print it here and annotate your work for tomorrow.

Tues. 11/27 - In class today, we went over Chapter 12 with a class discussion. We then worked on an activity on the Market Revolution and transportation - making posters and presenting the information. We will finish up this activity on Thursday and students will present the information. HW: Complete chapter 13 terms.
Thurs. 11/29 - Students finished their posters and presented on transportations and Market Revolution. We then played a timeline game -- a little competition and then began examining documents about social reform during this time period. HW: Complete the handout on Amistad (due Monday) and complete the social reforms documents packet and write one paragraph using at least 3-4 documents to support your response.
