Full Pundit - Chris Selley
The Ottawa Citizen’s editorialists side with Andrew Cohen and Bob Plamondon: Ottawa should rename Wellington Street in honour of John A. Macdonald. “This is not to deny that Canadian history begins long before Confederation,” they insist, or that “our origins are as a British colony.” But it just kinda is those things, unfortunately — certainly Cohen's motivation is to “Canadianize” our history. So we suggest a compromise: How about renaming Bank Street — all 40 kilometres of it! — in Sir John's honour?
Speaking of Andrew Cohen, The Globe and Mail's editorialists are interested to know why the president of the Historica-Dominion institute supports renaming Wellington Street, but abhors the NHL's renaming of the Lester B. Pearson trophy in honour of Ted Lindsay. 'Tis a fine question indeed.
