Mr. Shurtleff
Boardman High School
AP Literature and Composition
An Elegy for Youth
The last thing you remember, you were watching Steve and his dog Blue and eating Tasty Wheat in your parents' living room, now you are frantically filling out scholarship applications, visiting colleges, deciding on a career, just basically planning your life away. Now might be an appropriate time to set back on your proverbial mead bench (minus the mead), and think back over your life, such as it is. We have been studying the elegiac mode over the past several days, and now it is your turn to wax poetic. In this beginning of your final year of high school, think back over your past happiness and contrast it to your present, if not sorrows, then at least anxieties and fears. What happened to the simple life? What happened to no responsibilities?
Create an elegy that includes the following elements:
Caesura
Ubi Sunt
A Distinct Meter
Kennings ( at least four)
An example of a Litote
12 point font
Times New Roman (unless you find an appropriate Old English Font that is readable
Between three-quarters of a page to one page in length
Single Spaced
Check the Assignment on Google Classroom and submit it there.
