This is a tour for adventourers and expierienced travellers. You have to organize your air-ticket yourself - but from arrival to Antalya Airport, Metin will be there to guide.
This is the route he invites you to take part in:
Day 1:
- Arrival at Antalya Airport.
- Transport to Side city centre.
- Sea beach and dinner at local restaurant
Day 2:
- Breakfast at the hotel
- Getting aquainted.
Seing the the old greek and roman stronghold and cultural center Side, with the remains of the theatre, the apollonian temple and the museum as the most interesting things to see.
But Side is also a very lively modern village with numerous small restaurants and shops, beautiful beaches and boat trips. We will probably go by boat to the nearby Dolphin Island, to swim with the dolphins....
Day 3:
After an early breakfast at the hotel, we climb the mini-bus and set off for the mountains.
It is a remarquavble landscape. In a few hours, we mount from warm and humid sea-level to the pass at 1.825 m.
.
There, the landscape alters: We arrive into the land of the nomads. Most people have settled nowadays, but the animals are still drifting around om the plateu, and the shepherds with them, only now they go home by cvar or motorbike in the night.
At about 10:30, we leave the mainroad and go down along a pittoresque road to the village Dere. I can assure you: This is not a place where many tourists have been!
But Metin is recieved like a hero. He was the one, who had the idea for a new business when the old mill in the village met the competition from a new, heavy mechanized industry mill in the region: Sesame.
Sesame is collected from farms all around Dere, it is cleaned og dried and pressed into the most delicious sesame oil.
The miller and his son invites for tea in the mill. Bread, sesam oil and youghurt is served - and if anyone wants a litre or five of sesame oil, they are velcome to buy.
We will stop for lunch in the village Ayranci og Ereğli or Karaman - it depends on the mood and the majority.
The landscape alters again, we arrive in the Konya Plain - an enormous, flat former salt lake. We can see parts of the story of Cappadocia here, already, for the vulcano thar overflowed that area with this very special sandstone lava, also is the explanation of the Konya Plain.
Not very far from the ancient city of Çatalhöyük, we pass. That is the the largest and best-preserved Neolithic site found to date. It is 9.500 years old.
Should we change our plans, and go there instead??
Not this time. may be next? Look here.
If we are lucky, the weather is clear, and we kan see Hasan Dagi in the afternoon. The old vulcano is the explanation of it all: Thousands of years ago, it created the mountans that later on should be turned into Cappadocia - where we are heading today.
And if we are still lucky - we will arrive at the viewpoint Metin has planned exactly as the sun sets. I can promise - you will never forget that sight......
