Indeed - we are no organisation. We are just Metin and his friends.
It all started one evening in Side, at the southern coast of Turkey, in the summer of 2014. We had fun, telling stories to each other, Metin and me, Bjørn.
We found out that we probably met in Paris, 1969 (or was it 1970?). He was staying with a friend who had a small bakery in Montparnasse. I was living under Pond du Caorrousel, walking uphill to Montparnasse several times a week to get warm and to buy bread.
- I would like to show you Cappadocia, he said.
- Okey, let's go, said I. May be I can write something about it.
Good! Said he - If someone like what you write, it may open my way back on the road"
So, in October we went. Gabi, from Munich, came by as we packed the car. Where are you going? She said. Come see , we answered. - if you share the gas cost and accept the back seat, you are in!
A tiny Fiat Uno it was. Best car you can imagine, according to Metin. A bit small, if you ask me. But I am 2 meters 02....
What we plan to do?
I do not know, actually. What do you think?
Myself, Bjørn, i am making my living by writing stories. This webpage I write for fun, and because of a strange intuition that something good may come out of it. It may very well be, that I will srite more about Turkey - but I won't tell before I am sure.
Metin is thinking seriously about buying this minibus. He wants to take groups of fifteen people on four or five og six day's trips to Cappadocia along the same route as we went. Approximately.
But it has to be special people. People who are real travellers, who comes to see things they did not see or experience before, who comes to learn and to share thoughts and stories.
May be we will get in touch with fifteen such people during he winter 14/15? If so, we probably will create a social media group, and may be even meet, physically.
If the first group goes, in March or April -15, I think I will go too. Just to find out what this intuition actually is about.
Watch Metin's song:, After having crossed the Konya Plain on our way back to the coast, he started to sing this folk song from Cappadocia:
It is about this girl who was too proud to anything but ignoring the boy who was so much in love with her - till he says those magic words: I don't care - I can do without you!
That changed everything - and afterwards, life became like frying corn....
Contact us, if you consider joining! The email group@cappadocia.eu wil bring your message to both Metin and Bjørn :-)
