Belmont High School Athletics & Friends of Belmont Skiing are offering a special race day for the entire ski team on January 30th, 2026. Students will be excused from F-Block & take the bus just as we do on a normal race day. The purpose of this is to give all racers a chance to see how their movements affect their time results.
This will give all racers on the team an opportunity to race and practice WITH TIMING. It is an opportunity that would include an EXTRA DAY of training, and this day would have to be a Friday.
We will travel to Nashoba on FRIDAY 1/30 and get our OWN RACE COURSE, with timing officials. This is available to all racers who have made the team, which is everyone who is on the racers@ email and chat group.
The extra day on a Friday is available because other schools do not train on Fridays, so the hill and staff are available. RAIN DATE: February 27
So, are you interested?

Races are on Tuesday bus LOADS AT 1:30pm from BHS - ski shed by Baseball field
Training at Nashoba is Wednesday and Thursday night bus loads at 4:45pm from BHS
Advise
Ski as much as you can.
For first year racers, gear can be challenging. Many families rent skis, boots and poles at a local shop for the season. This is an economical way to start, but the equipment will not be adequate to manage the conditions well. The racer will be able to tell if they enjoy the activity and if it's what drives them. To do well, the skier must have race gear, which is not rented by any shops that I know. The first year of racing the racer will learn to navigate a race course in a reasonable amount of time, maintain their gear and how much they love the sport.
All skiers must have gear that fits them:
Skis, boots and poles
Helmet and goggles
Gloves or mittens, winter outdoor pants
BHS team parka - managed by Friends of Belmont Skiing (FOBS)
Additional optional racing gear:
Slalom and Giant Slalom skis
SL & GS Poles
Shin & pole guards
Chin guard for their helmet -- often the racer puchases this at the same time as the helmet.
Racing gear is different than recreational gear and is generally sold by shops like these.
Ski shops near us
Ski Haus and Sun & Ski have been helpful to other racers, the team does not have a direct partnership. Rogers has been our partner for the yearly ski sale.
Belmont skis in the Mass Bay West League, Alpha Division, with races Tuesdays at Nashoba Valley. See Schedule for more details.
The 2025 season was a great success with 1 boy and 1 girl attending the MIAA State Championships, and great individual results from the whole team!
