Why does my child need a Google Apps for Education account?
Students will be using Google Apps for Education to complete classwork and homework assignments. In addition, students will maintain an ePortfolio of technology related projects at each grade level. Their ID number and password, provided by the district, are used to access their accounts.
How does my child access their account while at school?
Under teacher supervision, students log into a Chromebook to access their account.
Which Internet Browser should my child use to access his/her Google account?
There are many browser choices out there and there is no one that is the right one. However, be aware that Google does not support Internet Explorer so if you use Internet Explorer many things will not work properly. Also, if you are using Safari, Chrome or Firefox, make sure you are using the most up to date version. An out of date browser can cause issues. At school the students use Google Chrome - the main reason being since Chrome is owned by Google it plays "nicely" with our Google Apps for Education accounts.
How can my child log into their Google account from home?
When at home students can visit Google to log into their school account. A student's username would be their ID# followed by @bedfordnhk12.net (for example: 9912345@bedfordnhk12.net). Their password is the same one they use to log in at school. All students in grades 2-4 passwords start with Pws followed by their year of graduation and then a unique three digit number. For example, Pws26123.
Can my child use his/her Google Apps for Education account to communicate with me, their sibling, grandma & grandpa, or anyone else?
Students are unable to share work, send email, or receive email from any account outside of the Bedford School District domain. Please help your child remember that this account is for school use only and should not be used to communicate with friends or siblings within the district (unless it is related to schoolwork) or for personal work.
We have more than one person in our household that uses a Google account, what do we do?
Make sure each person signs out of their account when done. This will avoid the accidental creation of an assignment on dad's account or older sister's account. You'll see your email address in the upper right corner of the screen, click this and choose sign out.
